WWE/NBA Controversy in NY Times and More
The following is an snippet located in the New York Times:
DOUBLE-BOOKED IN DENVER Last August, World Wrestling Entertainment booked the Pepsi Center in Denver for its May 25 “Monday Night Raw” event. But that night, the arena is hosting Game 4 of the N.B.A. Western Conference finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Nuggets.
W.W.E.’s chieftain, Vince McMahon, said in a snarky statement Monday that Stan Kroenke, the Nuggets’ and the arena’s owner, “did not have enough faith in his own team” to hold the date for a playoff game.
A league spokesman, Mike Bass, said the “Nuggets and W.W.E. understand” that the date for the playoff game “cannot be changed.”
Pepsi Center officials told a Denver TV station that they were working with W.W.E. on another date. But W.W.E. insists it is at an impasse, one that will presumably be resolved in a steel cage between McMahon and David Stern.
