WWE Looking to Recruit More Wrestlers
The WWE is looking at getting more wrestlers on their paychecks, but the story is much deeper that them just looking for unsigned talent. Instead of scouting independent circuits they are looking to lure wresters away from the new Wrestling Society X on MTV.
The new wrestling promo made its official debut last night and is only 30 minutes long. Unlike other wrestling promos Wrestling Society X is only 30 minutes long but is looking to attract a different crowd than conventional wrestling promos target.
Wrestling Society X wrestlers are only signed to short term contracts while WWE and TNA in particular offer their wrestlers longer and more lucrative deals. They are signed to the short term because it is a startup promo on a cable station and until some stats come in little will be known of how successful it is.
The new promo is directly competing with ECW on Tuesday nights which may play some role behind why WWE is looking to attract the wrestlers away from Wrestling Society X and into not only what is a bigger organization but one that can offer them more money and a proven brand.
Teddy Hart seems to be the most likely wrestling candidate for the WWE not only for his family legacy (the Hart family that is) but also because he has stated in the past few weeks that he was eying the WWE.
The entire situation about contracts but also the promos future will be interesting to watch. First, can the promo succeed directly against the WWE-back ECW. Second, will MTV have enough of a fan base to support the show or can they get the viewers they need to keep it going. I think the biggest thing that will change with the promo is that it is going to move to Wednesdays because there are no wrestling shows on that night and it could spur its success.
If anyone does indeed “cross over” I will be sure to cover it.
