WWE Influences “Heroes”

by Scooter

MonicaDawson.jpgI just finished watching last night’s Heroe’s episode that was titled: The Kindness of Strangers. I enjoy Heroes anyway, but last night’s episode was extremely interesting because it had to do with the WWE!

One young character, Micah, is staying with his grandmother and two older cousins in New Orleans. The younger of the two cousins is a boy who looks to be about 12 or so. He wants 65 dollars so that he can watch PPV - but not just any PPV, a WWE PPV event! His sister replies:

Monica Dawson: “Look at you. There are still tons of people living in FEMA housing and you want to spend 65 dollars so you can watch men run around in their underwear.”

Grandmother: “You can go to Burbon street to see that.”

Micah’s power is that he can fix things, so he fixes the cable box so that it gets the PPV w/o having to pay for it (Micah - come to my house!!). The sister comes home and sees Rey Mysterio doing his famous 619.

Turns out that Monica can do anything she sees on television (and she doesn’t realize it yet). She’s at the burger store she works at when her boss tells her to close down a bit early. She goes to lock the door and a guy forces himself into the store with a gun. He pushes her into a chair and goes into the back. She sits there for a moment and then gets up, runs towards the back, grabs onto a pole and 619’s the bad guy through the glass backsplash!

I couldn’t imbed it, but here is the segment of Heroes that has Monica performing a beautiful 619 (I’m pretty sure wires were involved, but it looked great!) Head Here to see the action (it’s about 3 minutes into the segment). Who would’ve thought that WWE would pop up on one of the most popular television shows of the last few years?!

And head over to Watching Heroes to catch up on the rest of the show!

I enjoyed that aspect of Heroes the other night too. Great stuff. Funny how they did the “Instant Replay” making the match look really old school too.
