Saturday Night’s Main Event was the pinnacle of an explosion in popular culture of pro wrestling.
To keep in perspective how popular pro wrestling was in 1985, legendary broadcasting executive Dick Ebersol pre-empted Saturday Night Live with WWF wrestling. The show was so successful that it began airing more regularly in 1987. The show was a ratings hit, peaking with an astounding 11.6 rating in February 1987.
