Maria’s longtime decision
-When Maria rolled-up Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix for the win on Raw, the fashionista earned the right to pose for Playboy — but she also inked a deal allowing her to live out a dream.
“Posing for Playboy is one of the greatest decisions I have ever made, explained April’s cover girl. “This year has been the greatest year of my life. It’s a celebration of that, and of me just being me.
But the decision wasn’t instantaneous. Maria consulted her mother and best friend as to what to do. Her sister, Jamie, however, provided the Diva with the best advice.
“Maybe you’ll have this opportunity again, she told Maria, “But right now Playboy wants you to do it and WWE wants you to do it. It’s a great opportunity and it’s there for you now.
Still, Jamie’s words weren’t enough to entirely convince Maria to go for it. The magazine gave her one day to decide, and in those 24 hours, she searched for a sign. It didn’t take long for one to show —and where it came from was a bit of a surprise. While she was signing autographs with Jimmy Hart in Tampa, Fla., a man approached her wearing a shirt that read, “Maria should pose for Playboy.
“I asked for a sign and I got it, said the fashionista, adding that she dove over the table to hug the man in the shirt. “I had the support of my family, I had the support of our fans and I was mentally ready to do it.
From that point forward, there were only two obstacles in her way: An overprotective boyfriend in Santino Marella and winning a match against Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix to appease a hidden clause in the fine print of her contract.
“This was a hard decision, the Diva explained. “It isn’t like doing a photo shoot for WWE Magazine where I have all my clothes on. This is me completely in the flesh.
But posing for Playboy goes far beyond just another photo shoot; it’s a new experience and a whole new insight. Maria calls it a “coming out party for her womanhood.
“I’ve always wanted to be an entertainer, Maria said. “I’ve always wanted to be more than just pictures, and posing for Playboy has given me a lot of opportunities and has helped me come into my own.
