WWE House Show Report Glasgow, Scotland 17th April 2009

I attended the above event at the sold out Braehead Arena. Will also attend the Smackdown/ECW Tour at the same arena on Thursday the 23rd. We are very lucky in Glasgow that we get to see the stars of WWE at least twice a year at this venue - but it always sells out so good business for the WWE I suppose. Capacity is around 5,500. Huge support for Rey and John Cena amongst the youngsters in the crowd.

Tony Chimmel came out and welcomed the crowd.

Kofi Kingston b. The Miz - Back and forth match with huge support for Kofi and a lot of heat for the Miz

William Regal w/Layla b. Charlie Haas - Huge heat from Regal (as he was an Englishman in Scotland) even before he got on the mic. He then said his piece on how much better England was than Scotland. Layal interfered a few times in the match which I haven’t seen from a valet in the WWE for ages! Regal dominated most of the match and won with the running knee. He left to even more heat.

Santino Marella b. Goldust in and open challenge match - Short match but Santino’s promo before it was comedy gold. The guy has his character to a tee and had the place in stitches. Huge support for both guys and Goldust was applauded to the back as he left the arena.

WWE Women’s Championship, Melina b. Beth Phoenix w/Rosa Mendez. Special Referee Kelly Kelly - Good match from these two and I thought Melina’s in-ring work was particularly impressive. Rosa was sent to the back after interfering and Melina got the win with a roll-up. Kelly Kelly and Melina pose at the end.
There was then an intermission where Tony Chimmel mentioned they will be returning in November. DX’s music then hit and the place got very excited but it turns out the November Raw Tour will be called the DX REVENGE TOUR.

WWE Unified Tag Team Championship, Carlito & Primo b. Mike Knox & Kane - Why is Kane teaming with this guy? Huge pop for Kane, his heel turn just hasn’t worked out. Lot of punishment for the Colon’s but they got the win after a backstabber on Knox.
CM Punk b. Chris Jericho - Best match of the night easily. HUUUGE pop for Punk and huge heat for Y2J. Jericho cut a promo on how he has been successful at everything he has ever done and how everyone in the arena were all failures. He is a fantastic heel. Punk then came out and posed on the turnbuckle with the Scottish flag and MITB briefcase which got a large cheer. Back and forth match where Punk hit Y2J with the GTS and he rolled out the ring. Punk got him back in and he kicked out then hit the Codebreaker from nowhere which CM kicked out of! Ref was knocked out and Jericho hit him with the briefcase but Punk again kicked out then managed to hit the GTS for the win. Great match.

Main Event, Rey Mysterio & John Cena b. The Big Show & Edge - Delighted The Rated R Superstar was here. Constant bickering between the two heels as the faces came to the ring. Massive pop for Rey and even bigger pop for Cena. Typical back-and-forth tag match with Big Show giving Rey a real going over before Cena made the save. Rey hit the 619 on Edge and Cena the Attitude Adjustment on Big Show at the same time. Rey pins Edge for the win and they pose as the show closes.

Good, solid show with the Main Event and the Y2J/CM punk matches being the stand outs. A bit disappointed that The Legacy weren’t there however they will hopefully be working the SD! show next week.
