Lance Cade Speaks on Shoulder Injury, Current WWE Status
Lance Cade posted this on WWE’s Fans Website:
Well, Summerslam was sure interesting wasn’t it? I knew Chris Jericho had plans depending on what HBK had to say, but I honestly wasn’t expecting that. Just as Chris and I have said over the last few months, HBK always has to make irrational decisions to feed his enormous ego. And at Summerslam, he proved that he would sacrifice ANYTHING just to keep feeding that monster. Only a fool would put himself into harms
way to get one last chance to have that spotlight especially considering the guy has a career ending injury. But, only someone with serious mental issues would not only put himself in harms way, but his defenseless wife as well. What happened was an accident. And I am standing my what my mentor Chris Jericho did because it wasn’t his fault. Instead of just admitting the truth, and just taking what was coming to him like a man, he ducked out of the way like a coward allowing his wife to get punched square in the jaw. End of story.
Normally in the past I have never had the opportunity to watch either Smackdown or ECW because of my schedule on Raw. Well I recently stopped being such a penny pincher and broke down and bought a DVR because there’s so much WWE programming that I’m missing out of. I just finished watching ECW last night and the life long wrestling fan in me came out as I very much enjoyed ECW from last night. To start, I think Matt Striker is just awesome as a color commentator. I’ve always had major respect for Striker’s speaking abilities, but speaking in front of the camera backstage or being in the ring with the mic speaking on live TV is drastically different than having the headset on and doing commentary on a live broadcast. I can say this because I know from first hand experience. I firmly believe that life long wrestling fans not only make the best wrestlers, but they also make the best broadcasters too. Striker is a perfect example of that having been a life long wrestling fan and one who is a walking piece of wrestling knowledge. His tone of voice is great and after getting my first chance to truly sit down and listen to his work, I just had to give him his props. I enjoyed the whole show as well. The opening six man tag match was great. I hope to someday get the chance to compete against Evan Bourne. Of course I would beat him, but he is probably my favorite newcomer to the WWE and he has the in ring style that I probably enjoy competing against the most. And my old opponent Matt Hardy seems to be on his way to winning his first World Championship. Personally I could careless for both Hardy’s, but every time I was in the ring with them, especially Matt, I always left the ring that night with my game being that much better. He’s extremely hard to handle. He has every tool that I think it takes to win a major championship in the WWE and I’m sure somewhere down the road that him and myself will cross paths once again.
As for what I’ve been up to, my shoulder injury was without a doubt the worse injury that I’ve ever had because at the beginning it was extremely difficult to work out. My passion in life is without a doubt wrestling, but bodybuilding has been the second biggest part of my life since the first day I started training on my 16th birthday. I was 6′5″, 170 lbs that day I started training and when I showed up in San Antonio at 18 for my first day at Shawn’s wrestling school, I was 240 lbs. You may have heard of people being bit by the wrestling bug, but I was bitten by not only the wrestling bug, but the bodybuilding bug too. I’ve been a gym rat for the last 11 years, am a huge fan of pro bodybuilding, and actually my best friends in the world are people that I’ve met at the gym who I’ve trained with. These last eight months, for the first time in 11 years, I haven’t trained as seriously and as intense because my shoulder had bothered me so much. Well, after listening to the doctors and doing mostly rehab work on my shoulder, it finally feels the way it used to before I dislocated it. Last week was my first full week of hardcore training and it was like I was born again. That’s how great I feel. Instantly my super fast metabolism kicked into gear and I think I ate more calories last week than I did all of July. I checked the scale on Monday and in one week I had already put 10 lbs back on. Certain individuals have made certain assumptions as to why I’ve lost weight since my injury, but if you have ever seriously trained and then have stopped that pace for eight straight months, you’re bound to lose muscle mass. Sorry haters, but there’s no other reason. I have no problems speaking the truth EVER!! The WWE implemented their Wellness Program in April of 2006, and the absolute best shape I was ever in was during my run with Murdoch against the Hardy’s. I wasn’t at my all time highest weight, I was probably 260-265 lbs but I was the leanest I’ve ever been which made me look bigger than ever. Go look at the pictures. That’s my motivation now… Those damn pics. My days for six straight months consisted of 30-40 mintues of cardio every morning on an empty stomach, then back to the gym about 5pm to train with weights and do a little more cardio. Not to mention I was taking in about eight small meals a day. I was so mad that I couldn’t train the way I also have, that I threw away every Flex and Muscular Development magazine in my house. Yesterday on my way back home from Chicago, I went to the magazine store at the airport and bought my first Flex magazine in 2008 and I’ve been reading through it since. For any of you that have self esteem issues, I can’t express enough how great committing yourself to a strict workout program and diet can change your life for the better. It’s a challenge against one person in the world, yourself. Not to mention for you guys out there who don’t like the way you look, it’s a good feeling going to the pool, taking your shirt off and have the best body at the pool. And there’s always when you go out at night. Woman like guys who take care of themselves! And, you keep yourself in great health. I’ve got the proof on paper to show this. Every year that WWE has given me their cardiovascular test that’s part of the Wellness Program, my heart has become more and more healthy. It’s stronger than ever and each year I have to stay on the treadmill longer to get my heart rate up so than can perform the test. Bodybuilding the correct way, is a no lose situation. And, I’m looking forward to my challenge I started last week with myself to get in even better shape than I was last summer! Until next time…..
