In the words of my Father, Dory Funk Sr., “You can spend your life wrestling preliminary matches and never learn to work.”
Under my Father’s guidance, in my first year in the wrestling business in Amarillo, Texas I wrestled Iron Mike Dibiase, Vern Gagne, Gene Kiniski, Fritz Von Erich and Lou Thesz for the NWA World Championship. The matches with Vern, Kiniski and Lou Thesz were one hour time limit draws. I was privileged to have the opportunity to work with those superstars of the time and I learned a lot from them.
Here at the Funking Conservatory we believe the way to learn the wrestling business is to have the opportunity to perform in live wrestling matches on television in front of a live audience against the best competition available.
Jeff Jarrett, America’s Most Wanted, Cowboy James Storm and Chris Harris, Gail Kim, Lexie Fyfe, (Played Hillary Clinton on Raw) Samoa Joe, Chris Daniels, Jerry Lynn, Scott D’Amore have all been here at the Funking Conservatory to wrestle with our Funking Conservatory Athletes. There is no better way to learn the wrestling business.
Most recently, All Japan Pro Wrestling’s Superstar and Talent Scout, Osamu Nishimura and I teamed together with Johnny Magnum to face Blain Rage, Shane Chung and Elvis Sharp in a Six Man Tag Team Match. This match is now featured on !BANG! TV along with Webies (MIni Movies) for our next !BANG! TV Taping on our website at www.dory-funk.com.
