Down Under “12 Rounds” Interview, Latest from Buff “The Stuff” Bagwell

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Adelaide.au in Australia featured an interview with John Cena to promote 12 Rounds, which came out today Down Under.

Here is an excerpts from the article:

Cena got to drive a fire-truck through hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of objects, cars and assorted other breakable things.

“That was awesome. There’s nothing that stops a fire truck,” he says. “I ran it through everything from buildings to cars and it didn’t even get scuffed. Those things are built to last.”

In fact, Cena did most of his own stunts for the movie “Just for the fact you need to see the hero go through all these quote/unquote challenges or rounds,” he says.

The hardest bit of the action for Cena was hanging off a building 30m in the air for two days for a rappelling stunt. He may be big and tough but he’s petrified of heights.

“That was a couple of crappy days at work and I really didn’t want to do it and even explored using doubles,” he says.

“But Renny promised me it would work out in the movie and I trusted him.

“I hated it, but it’s very convincing, too, because I’m very scared out there and it shows up on screen.” Read the complete interview here.

John Cena Workin with ‘The Rock’, But Wrestle Him First and MORE

Moviehole has got an exclusive interview with WWE superstar John Cena. Cena discusses “12 Rounds and working with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and more. Here are a few highlights:

“Well, firstly we did tactical training and so on, but this guy is uncertain in his life and uncertain with his girl. When someone in his life dies he doesn’t cope well. He’s not supposed to be to the best cop around. But the movie isn’t really about being a cop. Having said that, my brother has been an officer of the law for many years and I drew inspiration from him. I’d see him come home after a terrible crime or a murder and how that affected him. That’s what I took in. It’s not so much about being able to read rights to criminals correctly - it’s the stuff you see that makes the cop.”

John Cena comments on working with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, but rather wrestling him first.

“I would love to. He’s a great actor. I’ve talked to him. I’d like to get him in the Square Circle first”, he says.

Cena says he would like to keeping acting an one of his careers.

“I’d like to continue to do action stuff. Sure, those films can be funny at times but I’m excited about staying in the action game. We need an action hero. I don’t think you need be concerned that I’ll be leaving action [films] behind any time soon”.

John Cena Discussing Sequel and an “Classified” Movie

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

12-rounds-6
John Cena told Moviehole.net that he will be filming another film this summer but that details were “classified.” The article did not note whether it would be a WWE Studios production reports PWInsider.

In discussing “12 Rounds”, which will be released theatrically on 3/27, Cena also noted that he and director Renny Harlin have been tossing ideas around for a sequel, “13 Rounds.”

Cena, who noted he’d love to work on a Predator re-make, commented that director Henlin didn’t expect much out of Cena’ acting ability.

“I think he was planning for the worst. He thought he was going to be working with a walking broomstick. We laugh about it now, but he really didn’t know what he was going to get with me. He didn’t even know who I was. So it goes without saying that what attracted Renny to the project was the script.”

Meanwhile, Cena says he’s about to start a new “still classified” film in June/July.

WWE Films Remaking Action Movie

Friday, March 6th, 2009

wwefilmslogoVince McMahon’s, WWE films in doing an remake of “Missing in Action” that starred Chuck Norris. Apparently WWE is buying up old action movies to slate them for his WWE wrestling superstars. Does this have John Cena written all over it????!!!!!

Here is an press release by Rutgers:

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Joining the legions of remakes of ’80s action movies is a new take on “Missing in Action,” the Chuck Norris vehicle in which he blazes his guns throughout Southeast Asia, liberating prisoners of war.

This version, for MGM, will be updated, like most of the new action reboots including “Rambo,” to reflect contemporary realities. The movie will be set in the current Iraq war and involve an action hero on a mission in the Middle East.

The original “Missing in Action” centered on Col. James Braddock (Norris), a POW of the Viet Cong who escapes Southeast Asia and then heads back to liberate other U.S. captives. Two related features — a prequel and a sequel — were released after MGM’s 1984 hit. (The third film was directed by Aaron Norris, brother of the Texas Ranger.)

The studio’s plan is to release the new film directly to home video rather than to theaters. In an interesting twist, though, the co-producer/co-financier of the project is World Wrestling Entertainment, which has been expanding its action-movie slate under its WWE Studios banner. Movies like “12 Rounds,” a kidnapping tale starring John Cena, are set for theatrical release.

The screenplay for “Missing in Action” is being written by Jeremy Passmore and Andre Fabrizio. Passmore also is writing “Red Dawn,” another updated reboot of an MGM title about an ’80s military threat.
