STAMFORD — The Stamford Police Department and the Stamford Police Association are again joining with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and Tommy K’s Vitamins for an event to benefit the United States Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

WWE stars Jeff Hardy, Carlito and Primo and Diva Maria will be on hand at Tommy K’s Vitamins, 54 Research Drive in Stamford, from 12 to 2 p.m. to greet and sign autographs for the first 500 people who donate a new, unwrapped toy ($15 minimum).

Tommy K’s Vitamins will provide free refreshments and giveaways at the event, and will donate 10 percent of all sales that day to Toys for Tots. Daniel Rodriguez, the New York Police Department’s “singing policeman,” will also perform for the crowd. Stamford police officers will assist with traffic, parking and security.

-SlamWrestling reports: TORONTO — The WWE kicked off a partnership with the Daily Bread Food Bank Wednesday with an appearance by superstars Edge, Natalya and legend Rocky Johnson at their headquarters in Toronto’s west end.

The plan is to help the food bank raise awareness and reach its goal of $500,000 or 500,000 pounds of food by January 2, 2009.

“It’s wonderful to have Edge, Rocky Johnson and Natalya here to kick off their drive at the Air Canada Centre on December 22,” said Nyberg to SLAM! Wrestling. “They have a whole fan base that we’re maybe not real well-known to, so it gives us a great opportunity to get our message out that 900,000 people a year have to use food banks and 34% of them are children.

TOMMY K TO HOST WWE SUPERSTARS AND MARINES IN SECOND ANNUAL TOYS FOR TOTS COLLECTION SMACKDOWN

This holiday season, and for the second year for what is fast becoming a local holiday tradition, WWE and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program have teamed up again to provide toys for needy children throughout the Connecticut area.

On Tuesday, December 9, ECW Champion Matt Hardy, WWE Superstar Jeff Hardy, WWE Tag Team Champions Carlito and Primo, and WWE Diva Maria will be at Tommy K Vitamins, 54 Research Drive, Stamford Conn., from noon to 2 p.m., helping the U.S. Marines with their Toys for Tots campaign.

For a minimum $15 new, unwrapped toy donation, you can get an autograph and meet the WWE Superstars. In addition to the all star appearances and autograph session, Tommy K will be hosting an open house during the event with free refreshments and giveaways. Tommy K will donate ten percent of the proceeds from sales on the day of the event to the Toys for Tots program.

The vision of seeing a child smiling after receiving a new toy means the world to me, said Matt Hardy. It’s very important, and a great feeling and I hope the fans turnout as they did last year to support this great event.

Last year, more than 500 WWE fans lined the streets outside Tommy K’s Vitamins in Stamford, Conn., to meet WWE Superstars Jeff Hardy and Cody Rhodes, along with WWE Diva Mickey James, who made their arrival in grand fashion, riding in United States Marines vehicles completely filled with toys. But the day wasn’t just about autographs or photo-ops; it was about coming out for a great cause and collected almost 1500 toys for the drive.

Events like this make me proud to be a part of WWE, said Jeff Hardy. To create a smile on the face of a kid who’s not that fortunate is very inspirational and motivational. It’s a very warm feeling to be able to do this.

Thousands of toys, ranging from Barbie play sets to Hot Wheels and (of course) WWE merchandise, packed toy bins to the brim, while ear-to-ear smiles filled the faces of the fans waiting in line. George Ducanic, coordinator for Toys for Tots in the Stamford area for 15 years, was thrilled with the turnout last year.

It’s a great thing for Stamford-area kids, because there are going to be a lot of toys, Ducanic stated. We were very short on the number [of toys] we had before this event, so this gives us a big boost here in Stamford.

The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders. Chris Jericho, Brie Bella and other World Wrestling Entertainment stars will huddle with media Dec. 1 before heading to Iraq.

World Wrestling Entertainment stars like Chris Jericho, William Regal and CM Punk, and WWE “Divas” Beth Phoenix and Brie Bella will meet with the media Dec. 1 in Washington before heading off to Iraq to entertain the troops.

It will be the sixth year in a row that the wrasslers will be heading to “forward operating bases.” The visits will be taped for an hour-long holiday special, WWE Tribute to the Troops, set to air on NBC Dec. 20 at 9. The WWE stars, men and women, put on a show as well as giving soldiers a chance to send holiday greetings back home.

WWE is in Washington for a Monday Night Raw event at the Verizon Center there.

-CHICAGO – World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk put his bowling skills to the test last week when he joined the fifth annual Kerry Wood’s Strike Zone Celebrity Bowling Tournament.

This year, the Chicago Cubs player’s bowling tournament benefited the Organic School Project. The organization’s mission states that it “seeks to transform Chicago-area children into healthier, more mindful eaters, one school, and one child at a time.”

“I think it’s a great cause. It’s important to teach kids early, so they can start making good food choices and counting calories at an early age,” Punk told WWE.com.

At the event, the Straightedge Superstar found himself with a team full of female fans.

“It was an awesome experience. Everyone who was bowling got drafted. I was drafted by Cubs’ baseball player’s wives. I was on team Estrogen,” he said. “We dominated early, but then we fell apart in the fifth frame. It was really fun.”

In between games, the World Heavyweight Champion hobnobbed with many local and sports celebrities.

“I talked to Kerry about if Mark Cuban will buy the Cubs. In fact Mark Cuban was there. He knew who I was and he greeted me and introduced me to his daughter Alexis, who knew who I was.”

Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler will reunite on WWE television for the Monday taping in Washington D.C. of the upcoming NBC’s Saturday Night’s Main Event. The SNME will be taped prior to Monday Night Raw which goes live, as usual, Monday night at 9/8 central on the USA Network.

J.R. and the King formed one of the most popular and long term broadcast teams in pro wrestling history and both men went into the WWE Hall of Fame with the class at Wrestlemania 23 in Detroit. J.R. is now the voice of Friday Night Smackdown while Lawler remains on Monday Night Raw after the June 23 “WWE Draft” split the duo much to the surprise of many, long time WWE fans.
In addition to appearing in approximately 600 episodes of Monday Night Raw together and helping make that program the #1 weekly series on cable television and broadcasting many WWE pay per view broadcasts including several Wrestlemania’s, J.R. and the King also appeared together in the Milos Foreman directed film entitled “Man on the Moon” starring Jim Carrey as Andy Kaufman.

The NBC Saturday Night’s Main Event will air on Saturday August 2 and will feature a guest appearance from actress Jenny McCarthy who will address her efforts in fighting autism. Check your local listings for the broadcast time in your area.

During WWE’s recent Mexico tour, Mick Foley had the pleasure of helping make one young fan’s dreams come true.

Rosita, 11, from the Michoacán state of Mexico, has been sponsored by the SmackDown color commentator through Christian Children’s Fund for two years. Foley helped Rosita and her family make the four-hour trip from their home village to Mexico City to experience a WWE live event for the first time.

“I thought it would be such an incredible opportunity,�? Foley told WWE.com. “I had done something similar in the Philippines with a girl I sponsor. It’s such an easy way to make a life-long experience for these kids I sponsor.�?

It wasn’t the first time Foley met Rosita. Eleven months ago, he traveled to Mexico on a study tour, where he first visited the educational community center he helps fund. Seven months later, he returned to the site where he met Rosita, whom he had been sponsoring during that time.

Because she lives in a rural area and doesn’t have access to a television, Rosita didn’t know about Foley’s WWE Superstar status. After he gave her one of his action figures, Rosita couldn’t believe her sponsor was WWE’s “Hardcore Legend.�?

“Since that time, she and her friends talk about lucha libre and WWE. But she had no idea, because there’s not a lot of television in her village,�? Foley explained. “She met Superstars like John Cena, Jeff Hardy, Shawn Michaels and Triple H, and had no idea who they were until after the show.�?

Foley plans to travel to Sierra Leone on June 10 to visit another child he sponsors through the Christian Children’s Fund. On Monday afternoon, a reported 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck the southwestern Sichuan province. To date, the quake is responsible for more than 12,000 casualties, injuring thousands more and leaving more than 25,000 people trapped in the rubble of schools, factories and other destroyed buildings.

WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio was in Xi’an, China, with his wife, Angie, for a media tour when the earthquake struck. Rey is continuing his tour to meet our Chinese fans, and wwe.com will keep you updated with more details during his trip in China.

-MEXICO CITY – More than 100,000 of our fans cheered for the Master of the 619 when he was featured atop a wrestling ring float in the city’s annual Children’s Day parade. The annual event takes place the Sunday before April 30, which is Mexico’s Children’s Day.

Rey Mysterio’s appearance was the highlight of this year’s parade, as many spectators wore Mysterio masks, T-shirts and held signs for the WWE Superstar. He was the most cheered for celebrity in the parade, and even had to stop signing autographs at one point because the crowd grew so large and the parade had to continue moving.

The Children’s Day parade features television stars, pop singers, well-known athletes and role models that are popular among Mexican children. The festivities begin at the Chapultepec forest area, a popular Mexico City landmark for kids. It runs along the busy Reforma Avenue, passing by important landmarks such as the Mexican Independence Monument and the Torre Mayor, the tallest building in Latina America, finishing in downtown Mexico City.

NEW YORK – Rey Mysterio helped raise $5.2 million for the Toys“R�?Us Children’s Fund last week at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square. The Master of the 619 joined celebrities such as 30 Rock’s Lonny Ross and Speed Racer’s Paulie Litt at the entertainment-filled fundraiser. Toys“R�?Us’ 23rd annual charity gala was hosted by comedian Martin Short, and the night included a special performance by Grammy Award-winning singer, Barry Manilow.

The Toys“R�?Us Children’s Fund benefit has raised more than $82 million since it began in 1985. The event is one of New York City’s biggest, single-evening fundraisers. Funds raised by the Toys“R�?Us Children’s Fund are donated to organizations dedicated to keeping kids safe and helping children in times of need, including the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Autism Speaks, Save the Children, Children Affected by AIDS Foundation, the Starlight Starbright Children’s Foundation and Kids in Distressed Situations, to name a few.

Matt Hardy recently attended the 57th Annual Conn Smythe Sports Celebrities Dinner and Auction in Toronto. The Conn Smythe dinner is a fundraiser benefiting the Easter Seals Society, which assists families of physically disabled children with the purchase of costly equipment, such as wheelchairs, walkers, braces and communication devices. At the dinner, the SmackDown Superstar enjoyed meeting the 2008 Easter Seal Ambassadors, Julia Oliver and Sylvain Labelle, as well as fellow celebrities, including NFL Hall of Famer Thurman Thomas, Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Shaun Marcum and NHL Hall of Famer Johnny Bower.
