Saying that 10% reduction of its staff across all areas of its global operations. This reduction will result in annual savings of approximately $8 Million in compensation and benefit costs.

This 10% of the lay-off are for the 600 employees that run the WWE. With several managers, WWE production televison workers and other WWE division employees.

-Former WWE superstars Val Venis (10 years Veteran) D-Lo Brown, Bam Neely, Kevin Thorn aka, Kevin Fertig

-WWE Developmentals Michael Hutter, Mike Mayo aka Mike Kruel and Ronnie Arniell aka Gavin Spears.

-Producer and former WWF/WWE referee Tim White, referees Mike Posey and Jimmy Korderas. Korderas had been with WWE since 1987, former ECW referee Keenan Quinn.

_Also Vince McMahon has also released two of his limo drivers. Go figure, with the economy going belly up, Vince can go drive himself….

STAMFORD, CT– January 9, 2009 – World Wrestling Entertainment® today announced a 10% reduction of its staff across all areas of its global operations. This reduction will result in annual savings of approximately $8 Million in compensation and benefit costs. Additionally, the Company will incur an approximate $3 Million one-time restructuring charge in the first quarter of 2009.

The staff reduction is consistent with the Company’s previous commitment to implement stronger cost controls, increase earnings and margins, and reduce its cost base by $20 million in 2009. In addition to staffing, the Company has completed a comprehensive evaluation of its operating and capital expenditures and has identified additional efficiencies. Collectively, these initiatives will strengthen the Company’s financial performance.

Viacom Pulling Networks Including SpikeTV, WWE Agent Released

Viacom to pull networks from Time Warner Cable

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Viacom Inc on Tuesday said it will pull its cable television networks, including Nickelodeon, Comedy Central and MTV, Spike TV {TNA Wrestling} off Time Warner Cable if the companies do not reach a deal on carriage fees by January 1.

In a statement, Viacom said it is seeking a fee increase of less than 25 cents per month per subscriber from the second-largest U.S. cable operator.

Time Warner Cable says it has 13.3 million video subscribers. Its top markets include New York, Los Angeles, Dallas and Cleveland.

“Time Warner Cable has dismissed our efforts at a fair compromise,” Viacom said in a statement. “As a result, we are sorry to say that for Time Warner Cable customers our networks will go dark as of 12:01 on January 1st.”

WWE® Tags Jared Bartie As New General Counsel

STAMFORD, Conn., October 7, 2008 – World Wrestling Entertainment®, Inc. announced today that Jared Bartie has been named its new Executive Vice President and General Counsel, effective November 17, 2008.

In his new role, Bartie will be a key member of WWE’s management team and will be primarily responsible for the Legal and Business Affairs for the Company. “Jared already has a proven track record with WWE, and we are confident that with his leadership our organization will be able to meet the global challenges ahead” said WWE COO, Michael Sileck.

Bartie has held legal and business positions with several sports and entertainment companies including: the Charlotte Bobcats, National Basketball Association, United States Tennis Association, WWE and Black Entertainment Television. Bartie holds a Bachelor of Arts from American University and a Juris Doctor from Northwestern University School of Law.

So I guess CM PUNK is feeling better. I may not know the space program but i DO know if a guy is as disciplined to live DRUG FREE ALCOHOL FREE (and few who talk it walk it as well as Punk) Why? Why on earth would you want to bring out his dark side?! I don’t know if I’ve ever blogged on CM PUNK (it would probably take too long. he’s got a lot going on) I don’t know if anyone read Captain America in the late nineties, maybe 2000, but there was an interesting story line named, “Man without a country” The story was simple enough, what does a hero made by the gov’t who works directly for the gov’t do when all the wars are essentially over? What do you do when you then. He was alone for the first time I could remember (Here be’eth the tie in to Punk) I don’t care what business you are in, when you live that structured and disciplined a life, you mainly run SOLO. You learn very early on in life how to rely on NO ONE but yourself. That is spooky confidence building blocks right there. Because, other than sociopaths or police officers, firefighters,TOP athletes, risk associated lifestyles, very few people can live that difficult a life style. now remember i wrote the word sociopath, I ain’t saying the man is going to go tony montana on the RAW roster but why would you want to push a dude like that?! Jeff Hardy will forever be an Enigma (enigmatically) but Punk is at the very least a mystery and if I knew whether or not the word quandry (which i spelled incorrectly) was more powerful than that or if it even qualifies as a word … Look, it’s somewhere between this and that, there. The guy is deep. (this is where people reading either laugh or click to more DIVA pictures) YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!!

Even when WWE ushers in a youth movement, it’s negated by the fact that no one in WWE appears to be playing to a younger audience.

The reason is because too many people inside the organisation are not concerned with the reaction of the ticket buying crowd, they’re instead trying to solely appease WWE chairman Vince McMahon.

The problem is that WWE, from the conception to the implementation of all ideas is in a rut because everything is based on AN AUDIENCE OF ONE.

And that “one” is Vince McMahon.

WWE Heading to India-I SEE Dead Presidents!!

MUMBAI: World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is aggressively pushing its consumer products business in India. The sports entertainment major has appointed Kids Media India (KMI), a subsidiary of Dubai-based Spacetoon Media, as a licensing partner in the country for WWE consumer products.

WWE, which will make the products available by the year-end or early next year, is eyeing revenues of $10 million from its licensed consumer goods business in India within a span of three years. Presently, it is generating revenues in the region of $1 million.

KMI expects to create a base of 10-12 licensees, to market its product by next year and has already announced appointed Bioworld Merchandising, a US-based company as its first. It will launch WWE apparels, footwear, bags, belts, head gear and imitation jewelry in India.

The announcement coincides with WWE World Heavyweight Champion Batista touring India. WWE International consumer products director Ross Walker notes that if the licensing deals are done properly, India could become a top three market in this category for WWE.

“India has the second largest viewership for our content. It is second only to cricket. When the ‘Great Khalli’ came down earlier this year, it gave us an idea of how loyal and passionate Indian WWE fans are. Of course, in the licensing business, piracy is a challenge,” Walker says.

To counter this, the company has adopted a three-tier strategy, ‘premium,’ mid-tier’ and ‘mass,’ to cater to consumers across the country.

In online, India accounts for four per cent of traffic to wwe.com. “We therefore have plans to launch an India centric site within the next six months. This would also be available in Hindi,” says Walker.

The consumer products business contributed $154 million in revenues last year. A large part came from the home video segment. In India, WWE has a deal for mobile content.

“We have 160 licensees globally and a thousand product lines. This year WWE opened offices in Sydney and Tokyo to cater better to the burgeoning Asia Pacific region. In the UK, our biggest international market, we have more than doubled our growth with categories like videogames and apparel. We also do cross category promotions with Woolworths and Tefsca,” adds Walker.

KMI MD and CEO Rajiv Sangari says that the company is looking for tie-ups in India for categories like toys, vidogames and sleep wear. “We are also looking at promotional licensing tie- ups. This is where the company will use WWE footage or a star in an ad and marketing campaign. For instance, in the US John Cena shot an ad for Subway. We will talk with FMCG companies, health products and banking companies to see how we can deal with them. We could also do road shows with these companies,” he adds.
