JBL TALKS WM 25, Why Rey Mysterio? Benoit, Last Night and MOre

Former WWE superstar, NOW Retired John Bradshaw Layfield has an interview with Around the Octagon. Here are a few snippets:

What are your thoughts on Wrestlemania 25?

I was happy. I had wanted to retire at Wrestlemania 25 for years and with the back injury I didn’t think I was going to make it. I was fortunate to make it. When I got to make it it was like a dream come true. And to see the Funks and the Von Erichs, my childhood idols get inducted into the Hall of Fame along with my buddy Stone Cold. I couldn’t ask for a better sendoff than to go out any better with all my friends in Texas, my home state.

Did you pick Rey to be your last opponent?

Absolutely, he actually retired me the first time. I was trying to figure who would be the guy to send me off. Rey is a good friend of mine. If Eddie Guerrero was around he would’ve been the guy but Rey was close to Eddie and he’s a good friend of mine. Since he retired me the first time I thought it would be great to have him do it again.

My wife was actually rooting for Rey that night. She hopes the retirement is for good this time.

What was the locker room like after the Chris Benoit tragedy?

Shock, he was a dear friend of mine. I never ever saw him get violent. Something like that happening was unbelievable. When someone snaps like that and does something reprehensible people say they never saw it coming. Well I was good friends with Chris for a long time and I can’t believe to this day that it happened.

Chris was a wonderful human being. That’s tough to say that when you talk about a guy who apparently committed double murder and committed suicide. I say apparently because no one will ever know for sure. I’m not denying anything because that’s what they say but I don’t know what happened those last 24-48 hours of his life.

What were you thinking as you rode to ring in your limo for the last time?

I kept thinking how cool it was. The walk back was the one that had so much retrospection in it. It was unbelievable the walk back. It was a quarter mile back to the back. They asked me if I wanted to ride in the golf cart that was ferrying the guys back and forth. I told them I wanted to walk back. I realized it was the last time I’d ever wear wrestling boots and wrestling tights and be a wrestler. It was cool there was no sadness. I was happy how I went out and I was happy it was over. I am ready to move on with my life

Trish Stratus Hints on Why She Didn’t Attend WrestleMania

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

trish-on-raw-12-22-08There was an rumor going around that former WWE Diva Trish Stratus was not going to attend Wrestlemania to compete in the 25 Divas Battle Royal because she wasn’t slated to win. And knowning that Santino was going to win the Battle Royal.

Slam Wrestling has the details:

“Simply, there were no finishes, no ‘What’s going to happen? Will I win?’ discussed,” Stratus said. “It was just, ‘Would you like to be in this 25-woman battle royal at Wrestlemania,’ and I said, ‘Thank you but I’m going to decline.’”

Trish adds:

“I’ve always said to come out of retirement is a big deal to me – so if I was to come out it is for something special,” she said “To be honest, I feel Wrestlemania is a place to create memorable moments in one’s career and frankly, with 25 women in the ring, I was just not sure how anyone could come out having their ‘Wrestlemania moment,’ maybe if it was a little clearer that could be accomplished for someone, I would have been a part of it.

“If I were to go back, I would like to do something that is new and fresh, there are so many girls right now that can work, I’d want to be able to mix it up with someone I hadn’t gotten the chance to before I left.” Read the complete interview here.

Nick Hogan Seen Driving, Jim Ross on WrestleMania Week-End

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

nick.jpg-TMZ caught Nick hogan driving . Apparently DMV granted Nick Hogan, aka Nick Bollea a driving permit last month for business-related excursions. You can read the article here.

Jim Ross has posted his recent update to WrestleMania weekend on WWE Universe. Here are a few highlights:

Drinking with Stone Cold Steve Austin: I loved having a final “wrestling beer” with Stone Cold and, for the record, I did keep the beer can which will go into some kind of display for one of our BBQ joints in the near future. I did get significant beer on my hat but I enjoyed every minute of it. The King strongly dislikes getting beer on him which I find amusing especially on Sunday when his entire wardrobe was rented.

Speaking on Tazz: Speaking of Smackdown, my pal Tazz got a little burned out from all the travel, etc and has left WWE. Todd Grisham joins yours truly this Friday night at the announce desk. I will move to another role going forward on WWE TV broadcasts much like my role was at Wrestlemania 25. I will be doing more analyzing or color commentary than my old role of doing play by play. Who in the heck knows what’s going to happen after this Monday’s Draft? Based on my personal experiences from last year’s Draft in San Antonio, I am prepared for any thing. Maybe I can cut a lucrative, free agent deal down in Florida at FCW. Read the complete post here.

Three Hour Raw KOTR, Trish at WrestleMania- No Show,

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Dad Hardy Watching “His Boys”, Matt and Jeff - Photo

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

matt-jeff-dad-hardyThe Miami Herald has an story on Matt and Jeff Hardy’s dad, Gil Hardy watching his “boys” feud on WWE.

Matt says,‘Our dad is our biggest fan, and he would always say, `When are you on SmackDown or when are you on Raw?’ We’d give him a round about time so he could make sure to sit down and watch it.”

”Well, don’t worry dad,” Matt said, “Tonight, some of the things I’m going to say are going to be a little aggressive, a little stiff, and he’s like oh, yeah, no problem, no problem.

Then Matt went on saying his promo on when Jeff’s dog, Jack was killed in Jeff’s house fires last year. Gil was not too impressed.

‘When I did that one promo where I came out, and at the very end I held up the dog collar, I talked to my dad the next day and said, `Did you watch SmackDown last night?’ He said, ‘Yeah, I almost wished I didn’t even watch that %$#@.’ It put me in a bad mood,’ but then he said he should know better, and he’s been around it a long time, and he knows what the deal is. He’s cool. He’s rolling with it and enjoying it.”

”Our dad is not a TV guy,” Matt said. “Our dad is so old school. He still goes to bed at 9 or 10, if he’s not doing anything, and he’s up at 6 a.m. working. If he doesn’t have any work to do, he’ll dump his garbage just so he can pick it up again. He feels like he has to be a man’s man and work.”

JR: Undertaker vs Michaels, JBL Leaving WWE, Tazz and More

Monday, April 6th, 2009

Jim Ross takes about WrestleMania 25 highlights:jr-profile

Undertaker Vs, Shawn Michaels: My 16th Wrestlemania experience was highlighted by the best WM bout I can recall broadcasting. The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels bout was simply a classic. Old school approach, a magnificent story, amazing near falls, drama, surprises, intensity, and awesome athleticism were just a few of the memorable attributes of this extraordinary contest. Quite simply, it’s a wrestling match I’ll never forget and I’ve seen plenty of them. I had immense personal respect for both men going into the match but that respect swelled ten fold when this “instant classic” concluded. If any young wrestler doesn’t thoroughly study this one then they are doing themselves a gross injustice.

Talks about JBL: Sorry to see JBL retire as John and I have a great relationship. I signed John to his first WWE contract over 13 years ago. We love talking football and I fully expect to do some Beef Jerky and BBQ biz with John in the future. John was a “throw back” in many ways and some aspects of his demeanor always reminded me of the late, great Dick Murdoch. That’s high praise for the record. John has no interest at this time in broadcasting for WWE but working with him would be something that I would truly enjoy.

Tazz: Speaking of broadcasting, I don’t know who I’m working with Tuesday in Austin on Smackdown but whoever WWE selects is good by me. With the Draft just a week away, I can only assume that whoever it is could be a temporary move any way. Read the full blog to its entirety here.
