Official Smackdown Preview: Independence Day

Friday, July 4th, 2008

smackdown7-4-08.jpg

WWE Champion Triple H and former World Heavyweight Champion Edge both retained their respective titles at Night of Champions, and SmackDown was poised to be home to two World titles under its blue hue. That is, until Batista attacked Edge on Monday Night Raw, and CM Punk cashed in his “Money in the Bank” contract to defeat the Rated-R Superstar for the gold.

Triple H will be a guest on MVP’s VIP Lounge this Friday, and The Game will certainly be on top of the world as the only World Champion on the show. What will Triple H have to say about Night of Champions? What will the Ballin’ Superstar have to say to The Game? And will Edge have anything to say after his shocking loss this past Monday?

With just one week until the wedding of the year between Edge and SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero, will the GM continue handing her groom-to-be pre-wedding gifts? Will the powerful “Family” continue to make life hell for SmackDown while they put the finishing touches on the nuptials?

United States Champion Matt Hardy will make a special appearance this Friday as America celebrates Independence Day. Hardy will put his title up for grabs in a Fatal Four Way Match on the Fourth against Chavo Guerrero and SmackDown newcomers, Shelton Benjamin and Mr. Kennedy. Will Hardy keep the title around his waist or will one of his opponents step up and make a name for himself?

And what about the new Divas Championship? When will Natayla find out who she will face for the coveted new title? And when will the title finally be contested?

Mick Foley’s Myspace Gossip

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Mick Foley has gotten someone else to write on his Myspace account:

Hey everyone this is Chris Mick as you can see below gave me these several weeks ago and I am just now able to get them up I apologize for this.

Mick__sMyspace.jpgPresidential Raw 5-1-08

Once again, I’m sorry I havnt written in a little while. Hopefully I’m not coming across like a lousy MySpace guy with these way to sporadic updates. Also, I’ve just been told that my official Superstar profile on WWE.com claims that I don’t have an official website or MySpace, which obviously is not true. It WAS true once, when I asked WWE to post that notice in the way of evidence of a couple of Mick Foley impersonators on the internet.

Speaking of impersonators, I really enjoyed the Barrack-Hillary showdown on RAW. I know that some didn’t like it, but it made me laugh out loud and it wasn’t long and mean spirited like the Trong-Rosie deal of ‘07.

I actually spent two days in Northeast Pennsylvania – Scranton, Wilkes-Barre and Hatleton – campaigning for Senator Obama last month. I told the staff that I wanted to see what grass roots campaigning was all about and they didn’t let me down. Thirteen hours of campaigning one day, eleven the next, before I headed home exhausted, deeply appreciative of how committed all of the candidates must be to put up with such a grueling schedule on a daily basis, and content not to visit a diner or doughnut shop for a long long time.

I knocked on doors for several hours in the poorest parts of Scranton, talked to high school assemblies in Hacleton, worked the phones in Wilkes-Barre and scarfed down diner food and coffee in just about every available eatery in all three cities.

It wasn’t always easy, as I’d been forewarned that I was entering heavy Hilary(??) country, and some residents I encountered were a little less than thrilled to have enemy combatants in their midst. And in what may be the most under-reported story in the wall to wall media coverage these campaigns have been subject to, racism seems to be woven a little more deeply into the areas social fabric than I had previously guessed.

Nonetheless, it was a valuable, rewarding couple of days and I was proud to contribute to our nations great democratic process.

Back from Mexico. June 18, 2008 - Wednesday

I’ve been back from Mexico for just a few days, but the memories the trip afforded me will last much longer, maybe a lifetime.

As some of you may know (and others, I guess are about to find out) I’m active in Christian Children’s Funds child sponsorship program. I currently sponsor seven children, three in Mexico, one in the Philippines, one in Sri-Lanka, one in Ethiopia and one in Sierra Leor. I detailed my visit to the Philippines (or at least my thoughts leading up to the trip) in “The Hardcore Diaries”, so I wont get into it here, except to say that it was a memorable visit, and having the chance to perform in front of one of my sponsored children was an honor and a privilege.

I guess that’s one of the cool things about being a mostly retired sort-of legend. I get to pick and choose occasional WWE trips to go on. I volunteered for this past Mexico trip a couple of months ago, about a month before rescuing Smackdown from the dark days of Coachdom. Sure, the sudden addition of Smackdown announcing to my life, when combined with my previous obligations, made my May a little hectic. And June, with a trip for Christian Children’s Fund to the West African country of Sierra Leone (where I’ll see Alimny, the little boy I sponsor) as well as two West Coast WWE trips will probably end up with me trying to remember what my children look like.

But as I head into the months of July and August, things will have settled down, and I will be looking forward to my weekly Smackdown sojourns. I’m sure I will also be reflecting on these trips to Mexico and Sieira Leore, and how much they meant to me.

Smackdown.

For the rest of my life, I’ll have to live with the fact that I’m the man who replaced the Coach. Let’s pause, for just a moment to reflect on all the joy Coach brought us in his stint behind the Smackdown desk. Ok, moment’s over.

Actually, my only reservation about taking the job was wondering what it might do to poor Coach. But after having a great talk with poor Coach, it turns out he’s going to be all right. He’s got a lot going for him, with his gig on MSG network, and is looking at doing more work in the legit sports world.

So, with my conscience clear, I went out to call my first matches on Backlash- and loved it. Well, maybe not at first, as I felt a little clumsy during the Matt Hardy – MVP match, and quite honestly, um, how do I put this politely, um, didn’t you know, have that much to work with in the Shaw-Khali battle. But I absolutely loved calling Undertaker and Edge, and hope that I added to the drama in a way that might have been missing from Smackdown main events.

I know I still have a lot to learn – especially after seeing how difficult it was to work in and around all the bumpers, promos, commercials, b-rolls, upcoming match graphics and ring announcements. Not to mention the fact that I stumbled over my words often enough for Vince to refer to me as Mick Adamle at one point. Ouch!

I know there will be bumps on this color commentary road, and while I k now I’m not as comically quick as the King, or as dominating a personality as J.B.L, but I think, given time, I can grow intoa welcome presence on Fright nights. And even when I hit one of those bumps in the road, keep reminding yourself “at least he’s not the Coach.”

Smackdown Preview: The Guerrero factor

Friday, June 20th, 2008

smackdown6-20-08.jpg

This Friday on SmackDown, anything is bound to happen just three days before the 2008 WWE Draft takes place. Will General Manager Vickie Guerrero use her power to throw more obstacles at Batista as he prepares to challenge Vickie’s fiancé, World Heavyweight Champion Edge, at Night of Champions? Will the GM continue to look for the Diva she sees fit to challenge Natalya for the newly-created Divas Championship?

After signing the official contract for the World Heavyweight Championship Match against Edge, Batista was told by General Manager Vickie Guerrero to qualify he would have to defeat The Great Khali – or he would be banished from WWE.

The Animal found a way to take down the Punjabi Giant, and the stage is now set for his clash with the Rated-R Superstar at Night of Champions, much to the disgust of the GM & her lover, Edge. Will Batista strike back at “The Family” to make a statement of his own heading into Night of Champions on June 29? Will Guerrero & Edge place another roadblock in The Animal’s way to slow his momentum and keep the gold safe?

Guerrero also has begun scouting the Divas to see who she deems fit to face Natalya for the newly-created Divas Championship. Cherry was the latest of the Sexiest Women on Television to try to impress the General Manager, defeating Maryse on SmackDown.

Who else will try to state their case to Guerrero in hopes of becoming the first-ever Divas Champion?

One person looking to become a champion and using his Guerrero influence to earn a straight track to gold is Chavo Guerrero. On SmackDown, Chavo let it be known that at Night of Champions he will challenge United States Champion Matt Hardy for the title. Will Chavo’s bloodline help his case for gold? Or will Matt Hardy continue to roll as the U.S. Champion?

Official Smackdown Pre-View: The Animal is unstoppable

Friday, June 13th, 2008

smackdown6-13-08.jpg

On Friday, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero will play witness as Batista will officially sign a contract for the Night of Champions World Heavyweight Championship Match between him and Edge. What will The Animal have to say to Vickie with just over two weeks to go until he fights for the gold? (Watch)

Batista has a rocky road ahead of him, with Guerrero in the driver’s seat. The GM and Edge have already rid WWE of Undertaker and will stop at nothing to keep the gold around the Rated-R Superstar’s waist. With their impending July 11 nuptials and the upcoming WWE Draft, can Vickie, Edge and “The Family” keep the Ultimate Opportunist at the top?

Not to be outdone by Raw, Guerrero made another big announcement last week on SmackDown – the creation of the new Divas Championship. (Watch) In a Golden Dreams Match, Natalya became the first Diva to qualify for the new SmackDown title. What Diva will be selected to compete against her for the title?

Big Show is scheduled to take on ECW Champion Kane at Night of Champions for the gold, but because of the facial injury he suffered at One Night Stand, he has not been medically cleared to wrestle since. How will three weeks of being inactive affect this championship match? Also, Mark Henry has stepped forward to question the World’s Largest Athlete’s worthiness of becoming champion. Will the World’s Strongest Man continue to be a thorn in the side of Big Show?

Missed It..Cousin Sal VS Santino Marella -Video

LOS ANGELES – Tinseltown not only served as a ground zero for “McMahon’s Million Dollar Mania” press conference earlier in the week, but the City of Angels also welcomed Friday Night SmackDown to town.

A host of celebrities joined more than 14,500 of our fans in L.A.’s STAPLES Center to witness first-time sports-entertainer Cousin Sal square off against Raw Superstar Santino Marella. For expert guidance and support, Cousin Sal had none other than WWE Hall of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper in his corner, as well as late-night host Jimmy Kimmel at ringside and Kimmel’s girlfriend, comedian/actress Sarah Silverman, close by.

After holding his own against the Braggadocios Italian Superstar, Cousin Sal was aided by a distraction from Kimmel, helping him get the pinfall in his in-ring debut.

Now that Undertaker is banished from WWE, what does this mean for new World Heavyweight Champion Edge and his “family”? SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero may provide some answers when she kicks off SmackDown this Friday.

But, our fans won’t have to wait until Friday to find out the details of “McMahon’s Million Dollar Mania.” On Tuesday, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon divulged full details in an exciting press conference at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. More…

Speaking of the City of Angels, SmackDown comes to town this Friday, where Santino Marella and Jimmy Kimmel’s Cousin Sal will settle their differences inside the squared circle. There’s already a huge buzz in Tinseltown about this much anticipated match-up. More…

At One Night Stand, Batista followed through on his promise to hurt Shawn Michaels. What’s next from The Animal when he returns to the land of SmackDown?

But, Batista isn’t the only Superstar our fans are wondering about. Over the next few weeks, Superstars and our fans alike are anxiously awaiting the WWE Draft. What will this mean for the new World Heavyweight Champion Edge, as well as all of SmackDown? Stay tuned to WWE.com for details.

Official Smackdown Pre-view: Get the gold or go home!

Friday, May 30th, 2008

The unbridled excitement on the road to One Night Stand is building to a fever pitch and it all could explode this week on SmackDown.

Last Week, General Manager Vickie Guerrero released yet another firestorm when she announced that at the Extreme pay-per-view, the vacant World Heavyweight Championship would finally be decided in a TLC Match between Undertaker and Edge. However, Guerrero quickly made it personal when she added the startling stipulation that if The Phenom loses, he must leave WWE forever. After Undertaker won a fierce match against Chavo Guerrero later that night - with Edge, Vickie, Curt Hawkins, Zack Ryder, and Bam Neely in tow - how will “the family” react on the doorstep of the One Night Stand? With the World Heavyweight Championship hanging in the balance, rest assured that the Ultimate Opportunist and the “love of his life” will have something up their sleeve.

After Shawn Michaels’ controversial win at their last meeting at Backlash, the stage has been set for a brutal Stretcher Match between The Showstopper and Batista at One Night Stand. And, if last week’s VIP Lounge and subsequent match against Montel Vontavious Porter are any indication, HBK is going to be facing a truly irate Animal. After punishing the former United States Champion, MVP, in last week’s grueling match, who will Batista unleash his fury on two days before his pay-per-view moment-of-destiny with HBK? Will Shawn Michaels show up to personally send his own statement? Whatever happens, it is going to be one explosive Friday night.

Deuce & Domino looked to be getting back on track after winning the six-man tag along with their beautiful partner Maryse. The stunning Diva’s participation did not go unnoticed following their separation from Cherry just weeks ago. If the former tag champions can keep their momentum going, they could become a major threat to The Miz & John Morrison’s WWE Tag Team Titles.

Official Smackdown 5-23-08 Pre-View: Crowning a champion?

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

smackdown5-23-08.jpg

The stage was set for Undertaker or Edge to walk out of Judgment Day as the new World Heavyweight Champion. However, things didn’t go as planned for either Superstar. Although Undertaker defeated Edge, it was by count-out. So – as SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero reminded a chorus of booing fans – the title remains vacant. Judgment Day results…

However, WWE.com has learned Guerrero will kick off Friday Night SmackDown with huge news regarding One Night Stand. Will it involve the ongoing struggle for the title?

Will Edge continue to rely on his cohorts, including fiancée Vickie Guerrero, to help him in his quest to reclaim the gold? Are chinks starting to show in the armor of people the Ultimate Opportunist has surrounded himself with? Last Friday on SmackDown, Bam Neely & Chavo Guerrero opted to walk away from partners Edge, Vickie, Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder before a Handicap Match against The Phenom. What will Chavo & Bam do this Friday?

WWE.com has also learned that former SmackDown Assistant General Manager Theodore Long will be a guest on MVP’s VIP Lounge. What will Long have to say about his action on last week’s SmackDown – when he quit so that Guerrero could not fire him?

Batista vowed to hurt Shawn Michaels if The Animal found out HBK faked an injury in their match at Backlash. Recently on Raw, HBK finally admitted he did feign his injury. At Judgment Day, Batista reminded HBK of his warning to hurt him – and it would happen when he least expects it. If and when The Animal does deliver, will HBK be ready for him?

Official Smackdown Preview: Chasing the title

Friday, May 16th, 2008

smackdown5-16-08.jpg

Although SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero stripped Undertaker of the World Heavyweight Championship, The Deadman has the opportunity to regain the gold in a title match with Edge at Judgment Day. The Ultimate Opportunist earned the spot after winning last week’s Championship Chase to Judgment Day. Read the full story…

But now that the GM has angered The Deadman, will he wait until the big pay-per-view encounter to unleash hell, or will he bring pain to some poor soul on this Friday’s SmackDown? And as for the Ultimate Opportunist – after losing to Undertaker at both WrestleMania XXIV and Backlash – what measures is he willing to go to recapture the gold?

As Judgment Day approaches, what might we see from last week’s Championship Chase participants, including United States Champion Matt Hardy, Big Show, Batista, Finlay and Montel Vontavious Porter. With Edge and Undertaker guaranteed a match at the big pay-per-view encounter, who might be next? And what about SmackDown’s undefeated Superstars, Vladimir Kozlov and Natalya? Can they keep their streaks alive?

Official Smackdown Preview: There for the taking?

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

smackdown5-9-08.jpg

Now that SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero has stripped Undertaker of the World Heavyweight Championship, when and where will the next champion be crowned? Will The Deadman be looking to reclaim his title as soon as possible? Will Edge try to leverage his relationship with the GM to get his hands on the gold once again? Or, will another Superstar step up and try to claim the title?

When Shawn Michaels defeated Batista at Backlash, he finally silenced one of his toughest critics. Or did he? After Chris Jericho’s recent Highlight Reel – where Y2J accused HBK of faking his injury at Backlash – Batista vowed to hurt HBK if he isn’t truly injured. Will Batista keep his word?

When Big Show demolished The Great Khali at Backlash, he took down one of WWE’s biggest Superstars. Last week on SmackDown, The World’s Largest Athlete had a staredown with the World’s Strongest Man, Mark Henry that ended with Big Show calling for Henry to pick on someone his own size. What will happen the next time these two behemoths encounter each other?

On last week’s Championship Friday edition of SmackDown, the WWE Tag Team Champions defended their title. But, with all the talk they’re doing in the Dirt Sheet, how long before they tick off the wrong person?

Also on Championship Friday, Matt Hardy retained his United States gold against Montel Vontavious Porter. MVP held onto the title for almost a year. How long can Hardy?

Linda and Vince at Kentucky Derby w/ video, Why Coachman is Leaving? Speedy In WWE

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

-Vincent and Linda Mcmahon were at the yesterday’s Kentucky Derby. Why..Vince says the Kentucky Derby is like the WWE. They both have beautiful people and “animals”. Seriously folks, Vince was there to bestow the honors of his wife, Linda because she has a friend of one of the racers, Colonal John. Check out the video…..

-WWE Smackdown announcer Jonathan Coachman’s contract is set to expire within the next few months. Speculation has been going around that Coachman could leave the company for a full-time job with MSG Network.
Although Coach could potentially leave the company,Vince McMahon wasn’t please with the way Coach’s has been with his performances on the air. Coach knew for sometime that he wasn’t a good announcer and that he has been taking abuse from McMahon over the years. This is why Mick Foley is now a Smackdown commentator.

Smackdown Preview: Championship Friday

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

smackdown5-2-08.jpg

Atlantic City, N.J., is the gambling capital of the east coast, and when Friday Night SmackDown rolls in this week, there will be a lot of wheeling and dealing on the boardwalk.

This Friday is “Championship Friday”, as all three SmackDown titles – the World Heavyweight Championship, the United States Championship and the WWE Tag Team Championship – will be on the line for a blockbuster edition of Friday Night SmackDown!

Ever since winning the gold from Edge at WrestleMania XXIV, World Heavyweight Champion Undertaker has forged a path of destruction through WWE. But, this Friday he will face the 7-foot-3 behemoth, The Great Khali. The Deadman has battled many giant Superstars over the years, but what will happen when he tangles with the Punjabi giant?

At Backlash, United States Champion Matt Hardy finally got what he wanted – revenge against MVP, and in the process, the United States Championship. With a chance to regain the title this Friday night, what will SmackDown’s Franchise Playa be willing to do? As reigning champion, how tenaciously will Hardy fight to keep what is finally his?

In the remaining championship battle, WWE Tag Team Champions The Miz & John Morrison will defend the gold against Jimmy Wang Yang & Shannon Moore. The champions have defeated Moore & Yang in a pair of non-title matches this month, but just last week, “The Redneck” defeated Morrison on ECW and “The Reject” pinned The Miz on SmackDown. With the title finally on the line on SmackDown, which duo will come out on top when it really counts?

For weeks now, Colin Delaney has been vying for a coveted WWE contract. He gets another shot next Tuesday night on the 100th edition of ECW when he faces ECW General Manager Armando Estrada. But before that battle, Estrada has brokered a deal with SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero to have the young upstart face undefeated superpower Vladimir Kozlov this Friday night. With Kozlov crushing all of his opponents, what kind of shape will Delaney be in after he crosses paths with the powerful Russian?

And, after debuting on color commentary for SmackDown at Backlash, “Hardcore Legend” and three-time WWE Champion Mick Foley will be coming to Friday nights for good.

Don’t miss Foley’s debut, three championship matches and much more on a special championship edition of Friday Night SmackDown, 8/7 CT on The CW Network.
