Raw’s Main Event Announced, Remebering SNME - ” Was Special”

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

-Last night, It was announced on Saturday Night’s Main Event telecast that this Monday on Raw, John Cena and Batista will team up against Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase for the WWE World Tag Team Titles.

-It’s not as if last night’s Saturday Night’s Main Event was a bad show, but it certainly wasn’t anything to get excited about. As I watched the broadcast on NBC, I thought back to the old days when Saturday Night’s Main Event was a really big deal.

For those not old enough to remember, SNME originally aired about five times a year from 1985-1991 on NBC in Saturday Night Live’s regular time slot from 11:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. There was no Monday Night Raw or Smackdown back then, and SNME was the only WWE program to feature angles, title matches and skits. John Cena getting WWE Tag Champs-Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase Jr. in an FU

-August 1, 2008 - John Cena’s only been on WWE television for six years, but trying to come up with a list of his top ten moments seems like an impossible exercise. The guy’s been main eventing for seemingly three years straight (short the time he missed with his torn pectoral muscle), he’s got promo time on RAW every week, and he’s had legendary feuds with Triple H and Edge that have multiple standout moments.

This week’s Friday Wrestling List, then, details the moments we chose as the ten most memorable of Cena’s brief career. Your mileage may very likely vary, but these are our choices, which means they’re right. Friday Wrestling List: Top Ten John Cena Moments, Breaking down the Doctor’s most legendary incidents.

-1985 marked the return of pro wrestling to network television for the first time in decades. Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper replaced Gorgeous George, Buddy Rogers, and previous wrestling stars on network television. Saturday Night’s Main Event was the pinnacle of an explosion in popular culture of pro wrestling.

To keep in perspective how popular pro wrestling was in 1985, legendary broadcasting executive Dick Ebersol pre-empted Saturday Night Live with WWF wrestling. The show was so successful that it began airing more regularly in 1987. The show was a ratings hit, peaking with an astounding 11.6 rating in February 1987. The 11.6 remains the highest rating that any program has ever done in that spot. Top 5 moments in WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event history

JR and The King - Reuniting, Jenny McCarthy Speaks Out

Friday, July 25th, 2008

JR’s-Bar-B-Q DOT Com has posted an update on Jim Ross and Jerry “The King” lawler will re-unite again since their sepearation..Here is the post:

Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler will reunite on WWE television for the Monday taping in Washington D.C. of the upcoming NBC’s Saturday Night’s Main Event. The SNME will be taped prior to Monday Night Raw which goes live, as usual, Monday night at 9/8 central on the USA Network.

J.R. and the King formed one of the most popular and long term broadcast teams in pro wrestling history and both men went into the WWE Hall of Fame with the class at Wrestlemania 23 in Detroit. J.R. is now the voice of Friday Night Smackdown while Lawler remains on Monday Night Raw after the June 23 “WWE Draft” split the duo much to the surprise of many, long time WWE fans.
In addition to appearing in approximately 600 episodes of Monday Night Raw together and helping make that program the #1 weekly series on cable television and broadcasting many WWE pay per view broadcasts including several Wrestlemania’s, J.R. and the King also appeared together in the Milos Foreman directed film entitled “Man on the Moon” starring Jim Carrey as Andy Kaufman.

The NBC Saturday Night’s Main Event will air on Saturday August 2 and will feature a guest appearance from actress Jenny McCarthy who will address her efforts in fighting autism. Check your local listings for the broadcast time in your area.

-Hi everybody, it’s Jenny!

I’m stepping into the WWE ring next Saturday, Aug. 2 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. Are you ready to help me fight the war against autism?

You’re probably thinking, “Why did Jenny stop taking off her top and start fighting autism?” It started when my son Evan got his vaccines and shortly after went into seizures for 40 minutes and died in my arms after going into cardiac arrest. Thankfully, the paramedics revived him. After that, he continued to lose words that he could say before, his eye contact went away, and his bowels had problems. Then I was told the words that shook my soul and every cell in my body, “Your son has autism.” I couldn’t have been more devastated. WWE Fans! Are you ready?

JR Resolves Raw RumoR, SNME Taping

Monday, July 21st, 2008

Jim Ross has posted on update his my JRBARBQ.COM. Some internet wrestling sites are saying that Jim Ros is heading back to Raw, here JR claifies the rumor. WWE is heading on out in taping some Saturday Night Main Events later this month. Here is his post:

-As best I know this is nothing more than a weak rumor. No one from the WWE has mentioned the possibility of this matter to me in any shape, form, or fashion.

If internet sites are getting this info from “WWE insiders” either the “insiders” are fabricating the matter completely or purely speculating. I speak with WWE decision makers somewhat regularly and this issue, actually non-issue, has never been discussed.

I am thoroughly happy with having my “football weekends” off, except for PPV weekends and would be reluctant to leave a more wrestling heavy Smackdown to return to my old address.

Obviously, despite my knee jerk, impulsive response when the draft occured, I am a team player and would accept any broadcasting assignment given me but I honestly don’t see it happening.

Bottom line and in my opinion, it sounds as if some “insider” is spreading BS which is not a first.

I am enjoying working w/ Mick Foley….we do not consider ourselves “the 2nd team” nor do we perceive we work on the “B Show”.

Changes can always be made naturally but this one regarding me returning to Raw seems “highly unlikely”.

Apparently the WWE is taping some SNME bouts in Washington D.C. Later this month and I am told the announcer assignments for that event have yet to be made.

Perhaps some “insider” can expound on that matter as well.

From TORONTO Canada…

Match #1: John Cena VS Great Khali

Khali enters the ring and Cena starts the attacks right off. Cena goes straight for the FU and fails…he gets thrown out of the ring and struggles to get back in. Again Cena goes for the FU but Khali picks up Cena and gives him a double handed choke slam.

WINNER: Great Khali

The man’s a tank! There’s no moving him!

Arm Wrestling Competition

Lashley and Henry talking about an arm wrestling match. They never end up arm-wrestling, though, and end up going at each other. Vince ends it with a steel chair to Lashley’s head.

Match #2: Batista and Chris Benoit VS MVP and Edge
MVP and Benoit start off with Benoit chopping MVP down to size. Benoit gets MVP in the cross-face. Benoit tags batista in when MVP tags Edge in and the two go at it. Batista doesn’t want Edge, he wants MVP and he throws MVP into the ring. He powerslams him and then goes for the three count, but Edge tries to stop it. Batista stops him and goes for the spinebuster - he tags in Benoit for the flying head butt.

WINNER: Batista and Benoit - the animals!

Match #3: Finlay and Hornswaggle VS Boogeyman and Lil’ Boogeyman

Boogeyman takes on Finlay as Finlay can only imagine what will happen next. When Finlay’s down, Boogey taps in Lil’ Boogey who then drops to his knees and splats Lil’ Boogey in the face. Lil Boogey hist Finlay with lefts and rights and then gives Finlay a “lil” DDT. Finlay taps in Hornswaggle and thislil man means business. Distracts Boogey by offering his hat so that Finlay can drop kick Lil Boogey down. Finlay is saved by Hornswaggle from a small package by Lil Boogey. Boogeyman enters and runs after Hornswaggle outside the ring and onto the ramp as Finlay lays the right boot to the head of LIl Boogey for the 123.

WINNER: Finlay and Hornswaggle

Layla, Kelly and Brooks

The three divas dance to Timbalands music as Lil Boogey is going after Hornswaggle in the back. BORING…except for the two lil people going after each other.

Match #4: Kane & Doink The Clown & Eugene VS Umaga & Kevin Thorn and Viscera

Eugene has a new outfit, complete with backwards E instead of the traditional S! Thorn gets sick of all the talkingand beats Doink down. Kane helpfully punches him in the jaw when he comes too close to the babyface corner. Eugene comes in. He’s dropped the cape to wrestle. Viscera tags himself in while Eugene runs around him and uses jabs. Viscera is rocked but Eugene runs into the Black Hole Slam. Umaga gives him the nerve hold before hitting the Samoan drop. Thorn goes in and it’s him who Kane takes it out on. Big sideslam! Kane knocks the other heels off the apron. Doink runs in to stop Umaga but Umaga thumbs him in the neck. Eugene gets one too. Viscera in but Kane sidesteps him and gives him a major chokeslam!
