The WWEDaily is an HUGE believer of the Make-A-Wish Foundation…these wishes turn into dreams, especially for kids that have chosen life over their illness.

Every little bit helps…..God Bless

This press release was issued today from the Make-A-Wish Foundation:

july2_make-a-wish-summer-of-5000-wishes

It’s past the Fourth of July, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation® is committed to our goal of granting 5,000 wishes before summer ends. Thousands of seriously ill children eagerly anticipate their wishes will be granted!

Today, you can help bring us closer to our goal of granting 5,000 wishes before summer ends!

When difficult chemotherapy treatments for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) began taking their toll, Megan wished she had a puppy.

Our wish granters searched for just the right puppy for Megan. They found Sugar, a miniature labradoodle. Megan’s mom said, “Sugar was more than a pet. She was a part of her therapy.”

That’s why I’m hoping you can send a gift today to help us grant the wishes of these brave boys and girls.

Thank you for caring.

The following from the Make-A-Wish website:

All it took was one look at WWE Superstar John Cena in action, and Alan became a pro wrestling fan. He was visiting a friend in 2004 when he caught a glimpse of a WWE match featuring Cena. Alan saw an unyielding, unflinching quality in Cena that he couldn’t resist.

“Every time somebody challenges him, he never backs down,” Alan said.

Alan Learns from Cena – Don’t Back Down

One day, Alan felt a bump on his shoulder that worried him. A week later, doctors performed an ultrasound. He was soon diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Believe it or not, Alan considered himself lucky – his form of Hodgkin’s is considered very treatable. Doctors told him to expect six months of chemotherapy and other treatments. He was ready to pile-drive his illness into submission.

Alan must’ve channeled John Cena’s fighting spirit – he beat Hodgkin’s lymphoma in just three months.

“It makes me feel great because a lot of people at my church were praying for me,” Alan says.

Now, Alan expects his chemotherapy port to be removed in a few months.

Celebrating his Victory

Alan’s wish began with a limo ride to the airport, a short flight, dinner at Medieval Times and a visit to Six Flags. Though he had a great time on the Mr. Freeze rollercoaster, the next day is where his wish was really ready to start.

At a local Dallas mall, Alan dropped into a GameStop store and was playing video games when John Cena “walked up all casual” to greet him. The two squared off for a few rounds of Smackdown Vs. Raw 2009. (See video at bottom of page.)

“He started stretching,” Alan says, laughing. “It was really funny!”

After losing a few matches, a gracious Cena signed his hat and handed it to Alan. GameStop rewarded Alan for his victory with a backpack filled with video games, t-shirts and a GameStop hat. Then, both were off to Monday Night Raw.

Ringside at Raw

Alan took yet another limo ride, this time to arrive at Monday Night Raw. Before the action started, he met Superstars Shawn Michaels and Jeff Hardy. Cena arrived, carrying a load of signed souvenirs for Alan – dogtags, wristbands, shirts and more.

That night, Cena lost to The Big Show.

“But only because The Edge interfered,” Alan insists.

After the loss, though, Alan’s prediction that Cena would win at Wrestlemania came true. And the loss did nothing to diminish the experience or his favorite Superstar.

“He’s bigger in person,” Alan says. “His whole arm is bigger than me!”

Jeff Hardy’s Heart Goes to Kids Wish Network

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

jeff-hardy-brandon

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Kids Wish Network sends nine-year-old Brandon from Indiana on the wish of his life to meet his favorite WWE Superstar.

The one thing that Brandon enjoys most in this world is watching WWE matches. He simply can’t get enough of the thrilling and uncontrollable world that is professional wrestling. When he watches the WWE on television, the bright lights and adrenaline-pumping excitement take him far away from any discomfort his condition causes him.

You see, when Brandon was barely two months old, he was diagnosed with biliary atresia, a disorder in which the bile duct between the liver and small intestine is either blocked or absent. This causes a build up of bile in the liver and leads to cirrhosis and eventual liver failure. Just this past December, Brandon had to endure a liver transplant. Since the transplant, however, he’s been suffering seizures and high blood pressure; he’s in and out of the hospital every week.

It was through Brandon’s aunt that his mother first learned about Kids Wish Network and their goal of granting the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. Once he was referred, it wasn’t long before he was telling Wish Coordinator, Vanessa, all about his passion for the WWE and their Superstar, Jeff Hardy. With the help of Wish Funding Specialist, Donna, and some outstanding sponsors, Vanessa organized a trip of a lifetime for Brandon that included tickets to the WWE match that evening, a ride in a limousine and, of course, a meet-and-greet with Jeff Hardy, himself!

On the evening of the match, Brandon and his family were taxied to the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio in a very fancy limousine. “Oh, he loved that,” said Brandon’s mother, Jaime. “He really thought it was cool.” Once there, Brandon was escorted behind the scenes and got to sit down with his hero, Jeff Hardy. “He [Brandon] was a little shy. He was pretty much in shock.” Though he was a little on the quiet side, Brandon was more than happy to accept the signed gifts and pictures that Jeff Hardy was handing to him. While backstage with Mr. Hardy, Brandon even had the chance to meet other great names in the WWE such as Vince McMahon and R-Truth!

Following the meet-and-greet, Brandon’s excitement tripled as he watched the man he just met fight in the ring right in front of his eyes. The action was fast-paced and truly entertaining for Brandon and his family’s seats couldn’t have been any better: they were ringside!

After the matches, Brandon had yet another chance to hang out with his hero. This time, however, through all the excitement of the evening, Brandon lost his shyness and really opened up to his wrestling hero. “They just talked and talked,” said Jaime. “Jeff even took off the necklace he was wearing and gave it to Brandon.”

Now that Brandon and his family are back home, he wants everyone to know what a great time he had. “He’s taking his pictures everywhere with him,” said his mom. “It was MORE than Brandon’s dream come true…it was the time of his life.”

HOUSTON – Dreams came true for more than 50 Make-A-Wish Foundation kids during WWE’s “25 Years of Wishes” weekend event at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania last week.

In addition to new World Heavyweight Champion John Cena being appointed a Wish Ambassador (STORY), along with the Wish Kids’ visit to the Houston Zoo with CM Punk, Mr. Kennedy, Alicia Fox and Tiffany (PHOTOS), the Circle of Champions honorees participated in a special, private meet-and-greet with Big Show, Kelly Kelly, Chris Jericho and Mickie James during WrestleMania Week. (PHOTOS)

“This is probably one of the best perks of my job,” Big Show told WWE.com. “This one of the behind-the-scenes rewarding things, when you get to meet families like this. The kids are inspired just by meeting us. It’s overwhelming. To be honest, sometimes I have to look in the mirror and wonder if I’m worthy or not to meet these kids. To see the looks on their faces and their smiles, it’s very humbling.”

The Make-A-Wish visit was particularly special for Kelly Kelly because it was her first time meeting some of WWE’s Circle of Champions honorees.

“It’s seriously an honor. These kids are an inspiration. I see them and my heart melts. I love it. I love doing this stuff. I hope to get to do more,” the Diva smiled.

Big Show explained that WWE makes a point to always deliver what the loyal members of the WWE Universe want and deserve.

“WWE is very consistent in giving back to the community. That’s one of the things we strive to do. We do programs like this. We do all kinds of appearances. We’re really in touch with our fans,” the SmackDown Superstar said. “There’s a big difference between us and other professional athletes. We go out of our way to make sure our fans are included in everything we do.”

Kelly Kelly said she thinks it’s important that WWE takes part in charitable endeavors, such as meeting kids through Make-A-Wish Foundation.

“I love that WWE does this stuff. It’s a really great opportunity to meet them and make their dreams come true,” the Raw Diva said.

“It’s an amazing feeling to be here. I’ve never had this feeling,” she continued. “They’re so excited. They’re so excited to meet us. This is their Wish. It’s a great honor and I’m so happy they asked me to do it.”

John Cena Named “Wish Ambassador” for Make-a-Wish Foundation

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

The following is from WWE.com:

HOUSTON – John Cena, one of Make-A-Wish Foundation’s most-requested and devoted celebrity Wish granters, was named Wish Ambassador Saturday at Reliant Center, just one day before he’ll battle Big Show and World Heavyweight Champion Edge at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania. As a Wish Ambassador, the Raw Superstar will serve on Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Wish Ambassador Council and assist in expanding Wish-granting outreach across the United States. (PHOTOS) (WATCH)

“I really appreciate the fact that I was invited to be here with all of you guys,” Cena said. “I just want to say thank you to make a Wish for making me a Wish Ambassador. This is a charity I firmly believe in. As I told Make-A-Wish, as long they’ll have me, I’ll be happy to donate my time, effort, whatever they need.”

Led by basketball legend and Chief Wish Ambassador Michael Jordan, the council is composed of people passionate about the Foundation’s work, including the Make-A-Wish founders, celebrities and national sports figures, former Wish children, Wish parents and other Foundation supporters. Cena is the first celebrity to be named to join Jordan on the Wish Ambassador Council.

“I’m here today to tell you about our newest Wish Ambassador. He’s a WWE Superstar who quickly became one of our most requested celebrity Wish granters. He has granted nearly 130 Wishes since 2004, which is pretty phenomenal if you ask me,” said Kathy Forshey, Vice President of Marketing & Corporate Alliances.

“He has a great appreciation and enthusiasm for our mission,” Forshey continued. “We are delighted to have him help grant the Wishes of even more children across the country.”

Cena was formally introduced Saturday during a party he and WWE hosted for more than 50 Wish kids and their families as part of WWE’s “25 Years of Wishes” weekend event at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania.

“This is a big weekend. WrestleMania is obviously a big event for us – the WWE Superstars. But please don’t forget this weekend is about you guys. Please enjoy yourselves. Have as much fun as you can. We’re here for you. So really enjoy WrestleMania. Have fun today. And please please cheer really loud for me tomorrow!” Cena told the Wish kids.

The Wish kids were inducted into the WWE’s Circle of Champions as part of their action-packed WrestleMania Wish weekend, which also included an exclusive meet-and-greet with Big Show, Chris Jericho, Mickie James and Kelly Kelly, as well as a trip to the Houston Zoo with CM Punk, Mr. Kennedy, Tiffany and Alicia Fox.

For 25 years, WWE has been one of Make-A-Wish Foundation’s most dedicated Wish granters, fulfilling hundreds of children’s Wishes to meet its Superstars and Divas and attend major events such as WrestleMania. WWE has also made a multi-year commitment to support Make-A-Wish Foundation and its Wish-granting activities.

Make-A-Wish Foundation has increased its number of Wishes granted each year since 1985, including 13,425 in 2008, the most in its 28-year history. The Foundation estimates that 27,000 children are diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition in the United States each year, creating the opportunity to increase its outreach efforts to grant more wishes.

Kids Wish Network Teen Meets John Cena

Kids Wish Network Helps Teen Fighting Cancer to Meet WWE Superstar, John Cena

The following is from Baltimore Sun:

Georgetown, Texas – The Kids Wish Network recently granted an exciting wish to a brave young man who has been fighting leukemia, by giving him the opportunity to meet his favorite WWE professional wrestler, John Cena.

Eighteen-year-old Anthony Thomison is a typical Texas teen in many ways, collecting football cards and trying never to miss a Dallas Cowboy’s game on TV. He also loves to play his Xbox and watch his favorite TV series, WWE’s Monday Night Raw.

Anthony’s favorite wrestler is John Cena, but the “Dr. of Thuganomics” is not just a WWE Superstar, he’s also a bona-fide rap artist and movie star who is very appreciative of his fans. This mountain of muscles with Hollywood connections is actually a gentle giant with a big heart, so with help from the Kids Wish Network, he was able to make Anthony’s dream a reality prior to WWE’s Monday Night Raw in New Orleans.

Anthony’s diagnosis of leukemia in November of 2007 put this high school student’s higher education plans and dreams temporarily on hold. Leukemia is a cancer of the blood that affects the body’s white blood cells, which would normally fight off bacteria and viruses. The disease causes abnormal white blood cells that divide out-of-control, often crowding the body’s oxygen-carrying red blood cells and the body’s platelets, which are responsible for clotting.

Leukemia can lead to bruising, bleeding problems and tissue damage, or liver damage in Anthony’s case, and the threat of infection is always lurking. Anthony has had a tough year, even losing his hair after enduring months of chemotherapy to reduce the huge number of abnormal cells in his blood.

After Anthony’s father, Mike, received a call from the Kids Wish Network a few months ago, he was given the opportunity to nominate his own deserving son for a wish. Mike soon received a response from his son’s wish coordinator, Vanessa, letting him know that Anthony would soon be granted his very own wish. There was nothing that this polite, genuine young man wanted more than “to meet John Cena in person and to shake his hand.”

The Kids Wish Network is a charitable organization that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses, and their wish funding specialist, Donna, was able to secure sponsors that made the family’s entire trip to New Orleans very memorable. Little did the Thomison family know that their personal “guardian angel,” Vanessa, had arranged for much more than a mere meeting with John Cena.

The family was flown to New Orleans where they stayed at the Wyndham Riverfront New Orleans. The next day, the non-stop action of the WWE, via a ride from their hotel in a stretch limousine, awaited them. But before the match, Anthony got to meet with the very gracious John Cena at the New Orleans Arena.

Mike said Cena was very friendly and welcoming to his young fan, and Anthony’s nervousness at meeting his favorite star soon dissipated. Cena not only autographed a hat and a t-shirt for Anthony, but also chatted with him for quite a while. Anthony then presented Cena with a t-shirt and hat from the University of Texas, where he dreams of attending college someday soon.

“It was so fun!” said Anthony. Of his son’s reaction to meeting Cena, Mike exclaimed, “It was super! It was worth a million dollars to see how excited and happy Anthony was.”

The weekend offered a much needed break from the worry of recent hospital stays and doctor visits. After the excitement of the WWE, Vanessa was able to arrange for other fun outings in New Orleans, such as a taste of the city’s culture at Mardi Gras World, a surreal visit to the Musée Conti wax museum and a jazzy cruise on the Mighty Mississippi aboard the Steamboat Natchez.

According to Mike, the visit with John Cena and the family’s entire experience in New Orleans was more that just a fulfillment of his son’s wish. “We loved every minute we spent in New Orleans. Vanessa and all the Kids Wish Network staff are super people,” he said.

Mike continued, “It meant the world to Anthony, something he might not have gotten a chance to do otherwise, a dream come true.” The Kids Wish Network hopes that many other dreams come true for this special young man.

Triple H: “Dreams Come True” - Photos

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

MANCHESTER, England – WWE has been breaking attendance records throughout Europe on this latest tour and touching hearts at the same time. Before sold out shows at Manchester Evening News Arena, WWE Champion Triple H, Batista and World Tag Team Champion CM Punk honored a few English True Champs.

The latest Circle of Champions honorees were Make-A-Wish’s Curtis Brown, 10, of Fleetwood, Lancashire, England and Zack Simpson, 12, of Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. Dreams Come True’s Mark Hallissey, 7, and Macauley Davenport, 12, both of Manchester, England, as well as Rays of Sunshine’s Naveed Hafeez, 12, of Manchester, England, also had their wishes granted by WWE.

“I never thought I would meet someone as famous as a WWE Superstar. They were even nicer than you would think. This moment was great and just meeting Triple H was inspiring,” said Mark, an aspiring WWE referee.

Inside Manchester Evening News Arena’s luxury VIP suite, the True Champs were given exclusive WWE merchandise and autographs. The honorees and their family also posed for photos with their favorite Superstar and were given ringside seats to see WWE live.

During Curtis and Mark’s meet and greet with The Game, they quizzed the 12-time World Champion about his favorite foods (steak and potatoes), beverages (ice tea), and his gaming skills in the new SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 video game. When Cutis told the Cerebral Assassin that he defeated him in the No. 1 fighting game franchise in the world as Rey Mysterio, the WWE Champ responded quickly.

“That’s a game. I’d never lose to Rey Mysterio in real life,” Triple H replied, with a smile.

The WWE Champion acknowledged the importance of honoring kids all around the world.

“We go to all these different cities and as important as it is to come out into an arena with 20,000 people, it’s almost more personable and meaningful when it’s one-on-one with a True Champ,” explained Triple H. “I don’t care if I have to travel around the world twice to make a kid’s wish come true. It’s the biggest thing I can do.”

Batista and CM Punk’s experience with Macauley, Naveed and Zack occurred before Monday Night Raw.

“Anytime you can bring a smile to a kid’s face is very special. Little that they know, they bring just as much happiness to my life,” explained The Animal. “Knowing that they wanted to see me out of all the great WWE Superstars we have here is a true honor, one that I’m very grateful for.”

CM Punk echoed Batista’s sentiment.

“They were super excited to see Batista and myself. It’s overwhelming, because I got into this industry for my own passion. To know that there are kids out there who are passionate about meeting me is awesome.”

Although it was a special day for the Circle of Champions honorees who got to see their biggest dreams come true, their parents were just as ecstatic.

“My son’s meeting with Triple H was brilliant. It was something I always wanted. I’m glad it came true. Mark was smiling the whole time. I think he’ll take a lot from this experience. It’s something he’ll always remember,” said Nichola, Mark’s mother.

“Batista and CM Punk were absolutely fantastic. WWE and Rays of Sunshine did a wonderful job. Naveed is excited about it. It was an amazing experience,” said Mohammed, Naveed’s father. “It was a very special occasion that we were able to enjoy with him and we’ll cherish for a long time.”

The Great Khali Grants His “First” WWE Smile

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

SAN DIEGO – Hours before SmackDown went live in front of a sold-out San Diego Sports Arena, Make-A-Wish’s Jon Espitia, of Eureka, Calif., had a giant smile on his face. His grin reflected the Superstar he was about to meet, the Punjabi giant – The Great Khali. With Jon, WWE celebrated a historical Circle of Champions event. It was Khali’s first encounter with a True Champ.

“A lot of people doubt him for the way he looks or have looked down on him. The truth is, Khali is one of the most dominate WWE Superstars,” said Jon, 17. “I like Khali because of his size. I never really met someone that tall and big. My favorite finishing move is Khali’s Vise Grip. I don’t know what to expect except that he’ll be kind of quiet because he doesn’t speak English that well.”

Moments passed as Jon cracked jokes with his younger brother, Austin, mother, Adele and father, Gary. Then, as the sound of hard footsteps resonated, Jon’s eyes slowly moved upward and his jaw dropped. The 7-foot-3, 420-pound Punjabi Giant, being escorted by his interpreter, Ranjin Singh, appeared in front of him. Khali, towering over Jon, put his hand out and Jon quickly shook it.

Khali signed autographs and posed for photos with Jon and his family. With Singh interpreting, Khali even answered Jon’s questions about his relatives in India, Khali’s Kiss Cam segment and whether kids picked on him when he was younger. In broken English, Khali replied that he would “brain chop anyone who dared tried.”

After his first Make-A-Wish experience, the usually irate Khali was in a pleasant mood and expressed his thoughts about Jon in through Ranjin.

“The Great Khali says he had a fantastic experience and that he is honored to have been chosen by Jon and Make-A-Wish Foundation to make his wishes come true,” Ranjin Singh translated. “He is happy he was able to put a smile on Jon’s face and he looks forward to meeting more Circle of Champion honorees in the future. The Great Khali wishes Jon and every kid in the world the best and hopes they achieve every goal they set for themselves.”

Each week, WWE makes dreams come true for kids from all around the world by granting their wish to meet Superstars such as WWE Champion Triple H, World Heavyweight Champion Batista and John Cena. So, what does the former World Champion think about those who are surprised that a Wish kid chose him out of all the WWE Superstars to bring joy to his life? Khali laughed and passionately spoke in Punjab.

“The Great Khali says Jon wanted to meet him because he is The Great Khali and has dominated just about every Superstar in the WWE. Khali is different. Jon sees Khali as being someone he can look up to and try to imitate,” said Singh, who then said something to Khali in Punjab before abruptly ending the interview.

Mysterio with Batista, Bring Joy to “Make-A-Wish” Kids

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

TUCSON, Ariz. – The day after scoring victories against Chris Jericho and the Big Red Machine, Kane, at Cyber Sunday, new World Heavyweight Champion Batista and Rey Mysterio brought big smiles to Make-A-Wish’s Ethan Silvers, 6, of Dalton, Ga., and Marc West, 8, of Virginia Beach, Va.

“I like Batista, because he has so many World Titles. Plus, he’s cool. I expect tonight to be better than watching it on TV,” said Ethan, who has been a loyal Batista follower since he was 4 years old. Tonight was Ethan’s first time experiencing Raw live.

Marc, 8, decked out from head to toe in his black and blue Rey Mysterio cap, T-shirt, dog tags and mask, was excited to see his favorite Superstar in person.

“Rey Mysterio is a great wrestler and I like his 619. I’m happy he defeated Kane last night and will be here to see me,” Marc stated, moments before meeting the Ultimate Underdog.

Ethan and Marc were both giddy while anxiously waiting for their biggest dreams to come true – meeting The Animal and the Master of the 619. Ethan’s came first when the new World Heavyweight Champion walked into the locker room area inside the Tucson Convention Center. Batista posed with Ethan and his family for photos and gave the True Champ his signature merchandise, including The Animal elbow pads.

“These are just like the ones I wear. Now, don’t be dropping elbows on people,” said Batista, with a smile.

Batista also autographed some WWE official “The Animal” Batista photographs.

“Who is your best friend? He might want one, too,” Batista stated.

And Ethan didn’t hesitate to answer.

“You,” Ethan answered as he hugged Batista.

“I would give up all my titles to meet up with a Make-A-Wish kid. It’s quite an honor to be bestowed with the gift of a World Championship, but it’s like a gift from above to make a kid happy,” the four-time World Heavyweight Champion boldly stated.

“Ethan was just happy to be enjoying the moment and I was, too. Meeting True Champs is a feeling you really can’t describe. It’s a kid’s wish to meet you. That’s an experience that many people in the world will never get to experience,” Batista said.

Moments later, Marc’s wish was granted when Mysterio walked into the suite to greet his True Champ. Marc, who already had tons of Mysterio merchandise laid out for his favorite Superstar to sign, received brand new gear from the Master of the 619. The Ultimate Underdog posed for pictures with Marc and his family, and answered Marc’s various questions about his favorite foods, movies and pets.

Then, Marc presented Mysterio with trading cards and a crayon-colored picture he received from Tucson’s Reid Park Zoo. Throughout his experience, Marc continued smiling, which brought a huge grin to Mysterio’s face.

“Usually when kids are at the zoo, they’re thinking about animals and enjoying themselves. Marc was thinking about Rey Mysterio and what he was going to bring back to me. That’s amazing,” recalled the former World Champion, who collects all the gifts given to him by the WWE Universe.

“It shows the beauty Marc has inside and outside,” Mysterio said. “To be able to get the opportunity to meet Circle of Champions honorees and see them have a big smile on their faces, makes me proud of the positive influence I’m able to have on their lives.”
