Congress Cares Because of Benoit’s Massacre

Friday, July 27th, 2007
davis_waxman.jpg

Looks like Mr. McMahon is well on his way to getting in trouble from the United States Congress.

Representative Henry Waxman and Tom Davis, the two prominent congressmen who started the whole “Baseball + Steroids = bad” campaign a few years ago have turned their eyes towards the WWE due to the Benoit massacre.

Congress has ordered Vince McMahon to turn over all records, including:

A list of drugs covered by its policies; the entity that conducts its drug testing; the number of tests it conducts annually; the protocols followed after a positive test; and the procedures for awarding exemptions. It also wants hard figures about the number of tests that the WWE conducts each year; the numbers of wrestlers tested; positive results for each specific drug; and the number of positive tests for which wrestlers were penalized.

In the letter, Waxman and Davis said that they were concerned because they consider wrestlers to be, “multimedia stars that have an influence on the behavior and attitudes of the nation’s youth. WWE has a responsibility to do everything possible to eliminate the use of performance-enhancing drugs — or the perception of such use — by its wrestlers.”

David Black, the man hired to do the drug testing on the 160 wrestlers, recently had this to say about the WWE’s drug testing policies:

“The intention is not to punish, but to get them [the wrestlers] to engage in a different lifestyle.”

Vince has until August 24th to get those records to Congress.

Wrestlers Attack Trade on Drugs

Monday, July 9th, 2007
lancestrom.jpg

Professional wrestlers “Konnan?, Charles Ashenoff and Lance Storm attack the Wrestling business on behalf of the late, Chris Benoit.

It is said both Storm and Ashenoff are taking tighter control of the wrestling business so a tragedy such as the Benoit Massacre does not happen again.

Storm says states

“I think one thing is clear, regardless of the role drugs played in Chris Benoit’s state of mind, the wrestling industry has some serious drug issues… We have seen deaths in this industry due to drug overdoses, drug-related heart attacks, suicides due to possible drug-related depression and now perhaps even drug-related murder.”

Ashenoff adds,

“All these guys are dying and nobody gives a s***. Everybody - from top to bottom - everybody’s either on steroids, painkillers, they drink or they take recreational drugs, and in the case of half the guys, all four.”

Today’s Wrestling - No Bull From Bruno

Thursday, July 5th, 2007
sanmartino.jpg

Wrestling legend Bruno Sanmartino recently sat down forn an interview with Michael Smerconish. He had some enlighening things to say about his view of wrestling today:

“And it blows my mind that there are all these investigations in baseball, football and what have you where there have been no reported deaths, and yet when it comes to wrestling, it just goes on like it doesn’t matter, it’s not important, it doesn’t exist.”

Sanmartino makes some comments about WWE and steroid use. He reminded people that Vince himself admitting to using steroids during his 1994 trial.

“If the head of the organization is known to be a steroid user like that, can anyone believe the inside drug testing that the organization does?” he asked. “I find it extremely difficult for anybody to take that seriously.”

Bruno says that he never used steroids - that he got his muscles by working his butt off. He also said that while Vince may not encourage steroid use, he certainly made it easier on the wrestlers by keeping the testing in-house.

Bruno himself has recently had back surgery, but plans to be weight-training again very shortly. Way to go Bruno! Who better to hear about the state of wrestling from than one of the greatest legends of all time?

The Rock’s Family

Monday, July 2nd, 2007
rockdaughter.jpg

I was doing some research last night on wrestlers who have families. Let’s face it, the entire Benoit thing has got us wondering if these wrestlers really can’t handle the pressure.

Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson is no longer in the WWE spotlight - and has claimed that he will never return to wrestling (boo!). I did discover yesterday, though, that not only is his daughter way older than I thought she was, but it’s being rumored that he and his wife are getting divorced, after they’ve been married for 17 years…

Interesting…

Chris Benoit and Family Found Dead In Home

Monday, June 25th, 2007

WWE is reporting that Chris Benoit and and his family, including his wife, former WCW & ECW personality Nancy “Woman” Benoit and their son, Daniel, were found dead today in their Atlanta home. The local authorities are currently investigating the Benoit residence, and no other information is available on what, who, or why yet.

benoit.jpg

Tonight’s Raw is said to be a tribute to Chris Benoit and his family.
I am sick at heart and scared that this could happened to such a man - a man to whom I have looked up to in the past and had hopes for in the future.

My heart goes out to the Benoit family, and my utmost sympathy goes out to all men and women whose lives have been touched by Benoit, as mine has.

WWE.com has had the decency to remove all of the fake “Vince is dead” storyline off of their website. This is twice since this storyline has started that a wrestler has died. Do you think NOW they’ve gotten the message? You do not make light of death.

More info to come as I learn of it.

Edited to add:

The Atlanta Journal Constitution has confirmed that neither Benoit, his wife, nor his 7 year old son, were shot to death. It is also being reported that he called in on Sunday and said that he would not make the Vengeance PPV because his wife and son were throwing up blood. This has not been confirmed yet, and is merely a rumor.

Monday Night Raw - LIVE from Wilkes Barre, PA!

It’s Vince McMahon appreciation night as well as being the draft pick! Here’s how it works - wrestlers from different shows will go up against each other. Whichever one wins, that’s who gets a draft pick to their team. Sounds simple, right?

Jerry and JR are commenting for Raw
John Bradshaw Layfield and Michael Cole are commenting for Smackdown
Tazz and Joey Styles are commenting for ECW. The gang’s all here!

Match #1: John Cena (Raw) VS Edge (Smackdown)

Cena starts with the upperhand until Edge outhinks Cena by side-stepping. Throwing lefts and rights to Cena until he finally kicks him out of the ring. Cena sunset flips inside the ring for a 2 count on Edge. Edge goes for a spear and misses - Cena goes for an FU from the steel steps but Edge rakes the eyes of Cena and quickly enters the ring before the bell tolls.

WINNER: Edge by count out

Draft Pick - The Great Khali’s going to Smackdown!

Jesse “The Body” Ventura comes on and says that Vince is a dictator and that dictators fall.

Match #2: CM Punk (ECW) VS Carlito (RAW)

Carlito starts off with a smack to Punk, and Punk returns the favor with a kick to the face. Punk gets Carlito into a fireman’s carry and lifts him off to a knee to the face for the count.

WINNER: CM Punk

Draft Pick: The Boogeyman drafted to ECW

Snoop Dog comes on and says that Vince is the greatest asshole of the world!

Mick Foley comes out and says that he will be a part of the open WWE Championship Match at Vengence. (Yay! Foley!)

Umaga superkicks Mahoney and knocks him down. He picks up his “balls” and gives Mahoney the Samoan Spike for the count.

WINNER: Umaga

Draft Pick: King Booker drafted to Raw w/ Queen Sharmell to accompany him

Match #4: Bobby Lashley (ECW) VS Chris Benoit (RAW)

Good match - both going old school. Benoit gets Lashley into the cross face as Lashley grabs onto the ropes. Benoit gets Lashley into 3 german suplex’s, then applies the sharpshooter, but Lashley brakes the hold and gets Benoit into a scoop powerslam for the count.

WINNER: Bobby Lashley

Draft Pick: Chris Benoit drafted to ECW!

Donald Trump comes out and says that Vince is pathetic. The Fabulous Moolah and Mae Young come out in lingerie and, as a tribute, bark like dogs! Superfly Jimmy Snooka and the Iron Shiek make their feelings known about how bad they think Vince is.

Match #5: MVP (Smackdown) VS Santino Marella (RAW)

Please - Marella telegraphs all of his moves and is not ready for primetime.

WINNER: MVP

Draft Pick: JBL is made a happy man when Torrie is drafted to Smackdown.

Bret Hart! Bret Hart says that the only way to show Vince appreciation is by a couple of fists to the face!

Match #6: The Miz (Smackdown) VS Snitzky (ECW)

Snitzky uses his raw power to overcome the Miz. He does a nice running clothes line straight at the Miz for the win.

WINNER: Snitzky

Uh oh - Snitzky gets a little too enthusiastic when beating up the Miz after the match is called and the ref reverses the decision!

WINNER: The Miz

Draft Pick: Chris Masters heading to Smackdown

Rowdy Roddy Piper shows some great moments of people slamming Vince - including some of the all-time favorites of Steve Austin!

Match #7: Candice Michelle (RAW) VS Kristal (Smackdown)

TNA - Kristal takes what she can of Michelle, but Michelle hits Kirstal with a spinning heel kick for the win.

WINNER: Candice Michelle

Draft Pick: Bobby Lashley drafted to RAW!

Coach comes out and tells Lashley that, as he is not on the Raw roster, he can not have the ECW championship belt. Lashley reluctantly gives it up and says that he’ll prove that he’s still the champ on Raw.

Match #8: Jeff Hardy (RAW) VS Elijah Burke (ECW) VS Batista (Smackdown)

Burke takes to the outside leaving Batista and Jeff going at it. Jeff gets a reverse spinning kick off the ropes with a swanton for a near fall which gets interrupted by Burke. Jeff’s down and Batista gets Burke into a Batista Bomb for the win.

WINNER: Batista

Draft Pick: Ric Flair heading to Smackdown

Captain Lou Albino says how much of an idiot Vince is.

Dusty Rhodes comes out and says that like him or not, you have to respect Vince.

Mene Gene Okerlund says that Vince gave him his biggest break - by firing him so that he could work for WCW.

15 MAN MATCH

Matt Hardy, Chris Masters, Mark Henry, William Regal and Chavo Guerrero (Team Smackdown)

Kevin Thorn, Matt Stryker, Tommy Dreamer, Sandman, Marcus Corvon (Team ECW)

Randy Orton, Viscera, Johnny Nitro, Ken Dystra and Eugene (Team RAW)

A straight pandemonium Battle Royale. Mark Henry eliminates Viscera by throwing him over the top rope. Eventually only two men stand - Randy Orton and Matt Hardy. Unfortunately, Orton picks up Hardy and tosses him to the floor below.

WINNER: Randy Orton

Draft Pick: Snitzky drafted to Raw.

Stone Cold Steve Austin comes on screen and says it comes down to Vince being a lying sack of shit, and that’s the bottom line cause SCSS.

Vince comes out for some closing thoughts. Picks up the mic and says “Thank you”. Walks aimlessly around out back until Coachman directs him to his limo. He walks outside to get a breath of fresh air and heads to his limo. He gets into the limo, closes the door and the limo bursts into flames!
