Storm Speaks to ROH Stars, Marvel on ECW Champ

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

To Lance Storm, pro wrestling is an art form and the ring his canvas. No matter the promotion, he painted a number of masterpieces throughout his career, earning the respect of fans and peers with his unmitigated technical prowess.

After spending two decades perfecting his skills, the veteran passes his knowledge to wrestling students at his Storm Wrestling Academy in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and others.

When Ring of Honor makes its Toronto debut on Friday, July 25, Storm will speak with ROH stars, lending advice. He will also follow the group to Detroit the following night for its pay-per-view taping.

”I’m really excited about it,” Storm said. “It’s an amazing atmosphere. The crowd is its own different entity, and it’s so much more energetic than a lot of other promotions. It’s a lot of fun to be around, and the locker room is really cool, too. I’m looking forward to doing it again.”

The last time Storm was part of ROH he had a classic confrontation with Bryan Danielson. This time Storm, 39, is retired from active competition. So his ROH return will be a non-wrestling role. Storm confronts, helps aspiring talent

“The World’s Strongest Man” Mark Henry stands tall as one of World Wrestling Entertainment’s fiercest, most destructive forces and—after recently taking the title during Night of Champions—the reigning ECW champion. But Henry is one giant soothed not by music, but by Marvel Comics.

“I’ve been reading comics since I was a young kid,” recalls Henry. “But I’ve been more serious as an adult because it’s the only thing that entertains me other than wrestling. It’s so interactive and you can take your mind to a place that is real to you.” Fightin’ Fanboys: WWE’s Mark Henry

-I met Tom Fleming at the Pittsburgh Comicon in 2007. His work caught my eye immediately. I’m not sure if it was his amazing skills at drawing gorgeous women or his ability to make Firestorm look cool, puffy sleeves and all. Unfortunately, I had already spent all my dough before finding his booth, so when I got to Pittsburgh in 2008, I headed to his booth first. Tom was kind enough to answer a few questions spanning his varied and exciting career. Interview: Tom Fleming: From the Squared Circle to the Convention Circuit

WWE Tag Team Champions The Miz and John Morrison continue to emerge victorious. They managed to retain their gold on Tuesday night against ECW Champion Kane and Mr. Money in the Bank, CM Punk. Is there a team on the SmackDown or ECW rosters that can defeat the duo? With the damage Miz and Morrison caused to Punk’s ribs, when will he recover and cash in his Money in the Bank privileges? And with the 2008 Draft right around the corner, will there soon be new teams focused on winning the tag team gold?

The Big Red Machine’s latest loss may provide him with more fuel for his upcoming match against Big Show at Night of Champions. The two met on ECW on Sci Fi in a staredown after the World’s Largest Athlete declared that he will defeat Kane in just over two weeks. Will Big Show be able to back up his words at the upcoming pay-per-view? And how will these two monsters manage in the meantime?

Speaking of monsters, the World’s Strongest Man Mark Henry is counting on Big Show to be successful at Night of Champions so that he may vie to be the No. 1 contender for the ECW Championship. Will he get his wish?

Former ECW General Manager Armando Estrada received three chances on Tuesday from newly-appointed GM Theodore Long to earn an ECW contract. Unfortunately, he was unsuccessful, leaving him to wonder if future chances will yield better results.

Also on Tuesday night, Victoria prevailed over Kelly Kelly in a fierce bout as all of the ECW and SmackDown Divas look forward to more details about the new WWE Divas Championship.

Evan Bourne made a powerful debut on ECW by pinning Mike Knox for the win. The Tag Team Match – Shelton Benjamin & Mike Knox vs. Kofi Kingston & Evan Bourne – certainly brought the rivalry between the Jamaican Superstar and the Golden Standard to the forefront. Will Bourne continue his winning ways? And what will happen between Benjamin and Kingston this coming Tuesday?

Tune in to find out the answers to these questions and more on ECW on Sci Fi, Tuesday at 10/9 CT. Don’t forget, as a way saying thank you to our fans, you have another chance to win some of WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon’s millions. More…

Official ECW Pre-View: Extreme changes, playa

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

ecw6-10-08.jpg

With a new General Manager in the Land of the Extreme, there will surely be plenty of changes, playa. As the man in charge, Theodore Long has taken away Armando Estrada’s ECW contract and is forcing him to earn it back. The former ECW GM lost both of his matches Tuesday night, the first against United States Champion Matt Hardy and the second against Colin Delaney, which certainly does not help his situation. Will Estrada earn back his contract before the 2008 WWE Draft later this month? What other changes does Long have in store for ECW?

ECW Champion Kane defeated CM Punk on Tuesday night, but after his match, WWE Tag Team Champions The Miz & John Morrison attacked the Big Red Machine. Kane will defend his ECW gold against Big Show at Night of Champions, but what obstacles will he have to face in the weeks leading up to June 29? Will the WWE Tag Team Champions try to stand in his way? And when will Punk cash in his Money in the Bank privileges?

Due to a fracture of his eye suffered at One Night Stand, ECW Championship No. 1 contender, Big Show is not medically cleared to wrestle for the next three weeks. Big Show is still scheduled to challenge Kane for the ECW Championship at Night of Champions on Sunday, June 29. How will three weeks of inactivity affect this ECW Championship Match?

Also on ECW, Shelton Benjamin was victorious over newcomer Matt Sydal, but afterward, Kofi Kingston attacked the Gold Standard. But Benjamin had the last laugh after he threw Kingston into the steel stairs. Since Benjamin was the first to defeat the Jamaican Superstar a few weeks ago on ECW, Kingston has been seeking revenge. Will Kingston be able to restart another winning streak, or will the Gold Standard continue his dominance in the ECW ring?

To find out the answers to these questions and more, tune into Tuesday’s ECW on Sci Fi at 10/9 CT. Also, be sure to catch ECW in its entirety every week on WWE.com, available from Wednesday to the following Monday afternoon.

Official ECW Pre-view: And Then There Were Five

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

ecw5-27-08.jpg

Last week’s ECW proved to be a whirlwind of announcements, upsets, and explosive interruptions.

At the top of the broadcast, ECW General Manager Armando Estrada announced a Singapore Cane Match for One Night Stand, pitting former ECW Champions John Morrison, CM Punk, Chavo Guerrero and Tommy Dreamer against each other. During a pay-per-view preview Tag Team Match involving the four Superstars, former ECW Champion Big Show suddenly smashed his way through the four Superstars and into One Night Stand. Will Big Show create more havoc in the Land of The Extreme leading up to Out Night Stand?

Colin Delaney earned his second victory, with the help of his tag team partner Kelly Kelly. But, his luck ran out at the bell when Estrada reemerged to give the newest ECW Superstar his second consecutive extreme beat down. Will Delaney have the inner strength to continue? How many of Estrada’s attacks will he have to endure?

WWE Tag Team Champion The Miz set out to show that even though he was not a former ECW Champion, he was still a force to be reckoned with when he defeated ECW Champion Kane by disqualification. What affect will this have on the Big Red Machine?

Find out on ECW on Sci.Fi, Tuesday at 10/9 CT.

WWE Moves ECW to Raw, New WWE Trading cards

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

WWE is planning to move ECW On Sci-Fi tapings to the RAW tapings starting in June following the promotion’s tour of Australia.

ECW will be taped prior to RAW broadcasts and, we can assume, will also be part of RAW house shows. Smackdown tapings and house shows will then only feature Smackdown talent. WWE is hoping that mixing ECW in with RAW will help increase ECW ratings.

WWE is planning to end the Heat series and has already informed their international TV affiliates that a new WWE Classics series, featuring old WWE footage is the replacement.

Official ECW Pre-View 5-20-08 : Following Moonlight Drive to Tag Team gold

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

ecw5-20-08.jpg

WWE Tag Team Champions The Miz & John Morrison retained their gold on Sunday at Judgment Day, defeating ECW Champion Kane & CM Punk in Omaha, Neb. The Big Red Monster and Mr. Money in the Bank put forth a valiant effort, but will return to the Land of the Extreme without Tag Team gold. Kane chokeslammed The Miz outside of the ring, but moments after, Morrison delivered a devastating Moonlight Drive to Punk to pick up the win.

Now that The Miz & Morrison have retained their gold, have they seen the last of Kane and Punk? Or will the ECW Champion and Mr. Money in the Bank continue to seek the WWE Tag Team Championship?

ECW’s “Gold Standard”, Shelton Benjamin, is determined to end Kofi Kingston’s undefeated streak. During an altercation on Tuesday, Kingston wished Benjamin good luck, and then leveled the Gold Standard. Will Benjamin use Kofi’s attack to fuel himself to a win over the Jamaican Superstar? Or will the Kingston outshine the “Gold Standard” in their match and continue his undefeated streak?

Also on ECW on Sci Fi, Colin Delaney experienced a difficult first night as an official member of the active ECW roster. He picked up two brutal losses, one to Mike Knox, the other to ECW General Manager Armando Estrada. Well, at least the youngster had his own entrance music!

How will Delaney handle the Land of the Extreme? Will the youngster find his way back to the winner’s circle, or will he once again be the punching bag of his fellow ECW Superstars? Will Knox continue to beat on Delaney, or will Tommy Dreamer emerge by the youngster’s side? And now that Estrada is an active member of the ECW roster, how will the GM’s strong presence affect Delaney?

To find out the answers to these questions and more, tune into Tuesday’s ECW on Sci Fi at 10/9 CT. Also, be sure to catch ECW in its entirety every week on WWE.com, available from Wednesday to the following Monday afternoon.

Official ECW Preview: Sign on the Extreme line

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

ecw5-13-08.jpg

After picking up a historic win on ECW’s 100th Episode, Colin Delaney will at long last sign a contract to become the Land of the Extreme’s newest Superstar on the next ECW on SciFi. The persistence and passion has finally paid off for Delaney whose dreams came true after defeating General Manager Armando Estrada. But will the youngster with a small stature, but a big heart, have what it takes to be a success in ECW? How will Delaney match up to his fellow Extreme Superstars? And what will Estrada have in store for Delaney?

ECW Champion Kane joined forces with CM Punk to defeat Chavo Guerrero & Bam Neely in tag team action. Mr. Money in the Bank delivered a devastating G.T.S. to Guerrero for the win as WWE Tag Team Champions The Miz & John Morrison looked on. The Big Red Machine and the Straightedge Superstar are an Extreme force when paired together – how will these two Superstars leave their mark in the Land of the Extreme? And when will Punk cash in his Money in the Bank privileges?

Kofi Kingston remains undefeated in ECW action after defeating Matt Striker on Tuesday as Shelton Benjamin offered guest commentary. But after defeating “Your Teacher,” Benjamin stormed into the ring to attack Kingston, leaving him face-down on the mat. Has Kingston finally met his match? Will the “Gold Standard” be able to stop the Jamaican Superstar’s winning streak?

Finally, Mick Foley will also make his return to ECW and Matt Striker’s Classroom next week. What will transpire between the Hardcore Legend and “Your Teacher”? What does the SmackDown color commentator have in store for the Land of the Extreme?

ECW Preview: Extreme diamond anniversary-100th Episode

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

ecw5-6-08.jpg

It has been nearly two years since the rebirth of ECW, as the extreme brand reaches its 100th episode of bending reality on Sci Fi. The Land of the Extreme has certainly experienced plenty of change throughout those 100 nights, but one thing has remained, and that’s the unique, over-the-top style of wrestling that is unmatched anywhere else in the world of sports-entertainment.

Since its debut on June 16, 2006, ECW has been one of the Sci Fi Channel’s highest-rated programs. It is also one of the top performing cable programs on Tuesday nights among men.

In remembering the past two years, it’s nearly impossible not to recall the original ECW — a breeding ground that has produced Superstars like Tommy Dreamer, Stevie Richards and Hardcore Legend Mick Foley, to name a few.

“We in ECW faced a huge mountain to climb when it came to trying to compete on the same stage as WWE or WCW,” Foley said. “We didn’t have the resources, but we had the talent and the heart to put on a show that was as good, if not better.”

While Foley, SmackDown’s new commentator had a deep appreciation for the early days of ECW, he is also excited about the revived extreme brand.

“I really like how [ECW] lets younger wrestlers get an opportunity to show what they can do on an international stage.”

Mike Knox is a Superstar who has enjoyed much success from his ECW opportunity.

“I’m proud to be on the 100th episode,” said Mike Knox. “I was in the new ECW back pretty much from show number one and I always thought it was made up of the most extreme athletes.”

Of those young athletes, none are greener than Superstar hopeful Colin Delaney. For the “lovable loser,” episode 100 has an even greater meaning than it does to the rest of the roster. Tuesday night will serve as the stage for his final chance at an ECW contract, which the brand’s General Manager holds the key to.

“Colin Delaney has the biggest match of his career,” said Armando Estrada. “All he’s got to do is beat the former Cuban Heavyweight Champion, the former Havana Freestyle Champion, the General Manager of ECW, Armando Estrada. If he doesn’t, then I guess he won’t be around for the 101st episode.”

Big Show doesn’t make regular appearances on Tuesday nights; however, ECW still occupies a large part of the giant’s heart.

“I really understood the attitude of ECW against the world,” he said. “ECW has never been the big flagship promotion that some of the other brands have been, but it will always be a collection of guys that dig deep, work hard and give 100 percent every night. That’s something you can get caught up in and respect.”

CM Punk sees the brand in a similar light, calling ECW the underdog of WWE. But for Superstar Shelton Benjamin, ECW serves as a vehicle for personal success.

“I’ve seen a lot of great athletes come out of ECW, but obviously none as great as the ‘Gold Standard’ himself, Shelton Benjamin,” he explained. “ECW has been a rebirth for Shelton Benjamin, and with the 100th episode around the corner, I can’t wait to actually be a part of that.”

Matt Striker also expressed his excitement for being a part of this milestone, using his words as eloquently as ever.

“I know what it’s like to be hit in the head with a garbage can, to go crashing through a table and at the same time eat worms,” Striker recalled. “Whether I enjoyed it at the time or not, the bottom line is that after 100 episodes, I can look back and say that Matt Striker did his part to entertain our fans. Even though I’m the most hated man in wrestling, you have to admit that I am extremely entertaining and I look forward to doing it a whole host more.”

Believe it or not, Tuesday also marks 100 episodes for Kelly Kelly. The blond beauty has been a staple in the Land of the Extreme since the brand commenced. In fact, she is the only Diva on the WWE roster who has been with the ECW brand since day one.

“I’ve been through a lot and I’ve had a lot of boyfriends,” she said. “And I’ve loved every minute of it.”

The Sci Fi Channel fuels the imagination of viewers with original series and events, blockbuster movies and classic science fiction and fantasy programming. A network of NBC Universal, Sci Fi was launched in 1992 and currently airs in 85 million homes.

Be sure not to miss this week’s milestone edition of ECW. Celebrate 100 episodes in the Land of the Extreme, find out if Colin Delaney will achieve his dream of becoming an ECW Superstar, and check out Tommy Dreamer in action as he tries to avenge Mike Knox’s attacks in the squared circle. It’s all Tuesday at 10/9 CT on ECW on Sci Fi.

Update on The Adamle Walk-Out

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

tazz-adamle.jpg

STAMFORD, Conn. – WWE.com was finally able to reach Mike Adamle today; however, the lead ECW commentator refused to discuss his decision to walk off the job during Tuesday night’s broadcast of ECW on Sci Fi.

Speculation remains rampant in the locker room as well as in WWE offices and at WWE.com headquarters. Some believe Adamle is quitting the company. Others say it’s simply a ploy to make more money. ( I would vote for this one)

The most popular belief is that his walk-out was a result of the hostile environment at WWE events. Superstars have not been shy about teasing the commentator about his on-air gaffes. Also, perhaps worst of all, Adamle has been greeted by shouts of “Please quit,” “You suck,” and even “Drop Dead!” from our fans in the rows closest to the announcers’ table.

Any one or a combination of all of these factors could contribute to the unprecedented event our viewers saw take place on Tuesday night. What exactly is the situation now? Is ECW missing a play-by-play commentator? It appears we will only get answers if Adamle returns for the next ECW on Sci Fi, Tuesday at 10/9 CT.

Update on Adamle: Walking out on ECW w/ video

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

adamle-walkoff.jpg

WWE.com has posted these procceding on Adamle’s walk-off last night on ECW:

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Tuesday night, ECW announcers Mike Adamle and Tazz removed their headsets and left the broadcast position before the conclusion of ECW on Sci Fi. The event occurred just prior to the evening’s main event Handicap Match, featuring ECW Champion Kane and Chavo Guerrero with Bam Neely.

Adamle and Tazz reportedly exited the arena and marched straight to the parking lot. Adamle was said to look shocked and expressionless as he left.

WWE Superstars were taken aback by this unprecedented occurrence. Calls and texts to both Adamle and Tazz have gone unanswered.

It has been no secret that our traditional ECW fans have not been satisfied with Adamle’s lackluster commentary. Speculation is this could have led to the play by play and color commentator walking off during a WWE broadcast. Did Adamle and Tazz leave of their own volition or were they asked to leave?

WWE.com will attempt to get exclusive video interviews from WWE Superstars about this situation and post them as soon as possible. Stay logged on to WWE.com to learn more about this shocking development.
