I received an email this morning from long time wrestling fan Diane Devine who was informed that Killer Kowalski passed away early Saturday morning around 2:15 a.m. Killer has been in a coma for quite some time after suffering a heart attack and other ailments that severely affected his brain function. Until mid week, amazingly Walter’s vital signs were strong even though the doctor’s had discovered the severe brain damage.

Kowalski will always be considered one of the businesses greatest antagonists and he was a perennial main eventer around the world for decades. Walter also was an accomplished photographer, writer, and taught many individuals who went on to become some of wrestling’s more prominent names including his best student, HHH.

Walter was a staunch disciplinarian when he was actively teaching his students but had a heart of gold and a unique sense of humor. For example, when Walter married at approximately 79 years of age he kidded some of his closest acquaintances that “he had to marry the lady because she was with child.”

Kowalski was a vegan who at one time had one of the most freakish physiques of any one in the business and was always considered too nice a guy by many promoters to be a wrestling “bad guy” but nonetheless Killer Kowalski will always be remembered for being one of the wrestling business all time greats.

God Bless you Walter….thanks for the kindness and friendship you bestowed upon me and may you rest in eternal peace.

A great legend has recently passed away, Walter “Killer” Kowalski on August 30th in a Boston area hospital.

Funk’s Corner - Dare Devil Workers

Once in a while a “Dare Devil” style worker comes along in professional wrestling. They are spectacular to watch perform because every time out their goal is to give something to amaze the wrestling fans.

Such is the case with All Japan Pro Wrestling’s Great Muta who thrilled wrestling fans here in America in the glory days of Ted Turner’s Super Station and World Championship Wrestling. Tiger Mask (Satoru Seyama) and Dynamite Kid gave Japan some of the most spectacular wrestling matches ever.

One of my students from the WWE Funking Dojo, Jeff Hardy currently thrills wrestling fans with his high risk moves including a Swanton Bomb from the top rope, top of a ladder, off the stage, off a cage or any other high altitude perch.

Dare Devil work here in America began with Leapin’ Larry Chene in the fifties with his high flying moves and “Death Walk” from the ring apron down to the floor.

Here at the Funking Conservatory we are blessed with an athlete who thrills our wrestling fans with creativity and an Evil Knevel Dare Devil style of reckless abandon.

His name is Blain Rage one of many of our Funking Conservatory Athletes who will be looked at closely by All Japan Pro Wrestling’s Osamu Nishimura when he comes to the Funking Conservatory Saturday September 6th and Sunday September 7th to scout wrestling talent for his company in Japan.

During Awesome Kong’s wrestling match against Josie, indy worker, last night on Impact, TNA announcer Mike Tenay confirmed Gail Kim’s departure with TNA.

Gail Kim’s personal Website says:

Gail Kim has left TNAWrestling after her contract ran out and she didn’t sign a new deal. All of her information has been removed from TNAWrestling.com website. No official word on Gail’s future in wrestling is available at this time, but TheGailKim.com will keep an eye on the situation.

-On an interview The Winnipeg Sun with former WWE Women’s champ Trish Stratus discusses her upcoming travel show The Stratusphere on the Travel Channel. The series will debut in Canada this coming Monday on the Travel & Escape channel before coming to the U.S.

Stratus noted that she traveled the world with WWE, but rarely saw more than airports and hotels. “Initially we set out to do an adventure-activity show, and the fact I was willing to do all these cool things, that was the first idea,” Stratus said. “But then it kind of evolved into something slightly different, because once we got to these places, we realized these activities mean something really special in these cultures. So I was pleased to make it a deeper show. ”

Trish hopes the show, which she also narrates, will inspire people to travel. “I also hope it encourages people to realize there’s a great big beautiful world out there, so get out and explore it if you can. It always amazes me to go from one place to another and see how completely different they are.” More on Stratusphere

- Former ECW Superstar Balls Mahoney tells Newsday.com’s Alfonso Castillo that he left WWE on good terms and was told by the company that he could be used on big shows or could be brought back in the future. Mahoney says he hurt his shoulder in the gym and stopped lifting weights and basically fell out of shape for WWE’s standards. He says when his wife got pregnant, his focus switched from wrestling to raising his son. WWE saw what was happening with Balls and scrapped his angle with Kelly Kelly but tried to let him hang around and work it out. Balls was released from his WWE deal on April 28th, 2008. Kevin Lawler, the son of Jerry “The King” Lawler, was arrested this week on charges of aggravated burglary and trespassing reports WMC-TV out of Memphis, Tennessee.

According to police reports, a woman had asked Lawler to clean her carpets and had provided him a key to her home. Lawler later returned the key, however the victim says she believes he made a copy. He then entered her home without permission surprising both the woman and her boyfriend. Lawler was released from jail today.

Funk’s Corner - Public Access to Tryouts for All Japan Pro Wrestling

Osamu Nishimura comes to !BANG! TV and the Funking Conservatory Saturday September 6th and Sunday September 7th.

Tryouts for All Japan Pro Wrestling on Saturday will be open the public with a $10 ticket.

This will be an opportunity for wrestling fans to watch our wrestlers as they display their wrestling skills in the ring. The program will include professional wrestling warm up drills, Japanese and American style.

Wrestlers will engage in wrestling exhibition of their skills for Osamu Nishimura to pass judgment on how well they would be accepted by the Japanese wrestling fans.

All will be winners when Osamu Nishimura talks and demonstrates what the Japanese wrestling fans and promoters expect from foreign wrestlers working in Japan.

Sunday night, Professional wrestling comes to !BANG! TV with a card headlined by an 8 man tag team match with Osamu Nishimura, Dory Funk Jr., Johnny Magnum and Damien Steele going against Elvis Sharp, Shane Chung, Blain Rage and Johnny Romano.

The RtV Mobile Election Vehicle, launching in partnership with AT&T, will be stationed at Youth HQ right outside the convention center. Vehicle features include:
• A PSA Recording Booth where visitors record their very own PSA/Rock the Vote message to share with friends online or via video text messaging (MMS)
• Two Voter Registration Bays with computer stations where young people can register to vote
• A Mobile Music Bay where concert-goers can download RTV-related content to their mobile device and sign up for an AT&T RTV text message short-code, RTVOTE (788683), to automatically receive voter registration and Election Day reminders, polls, political quizzes, celebrity messages, and mobilization alerts
• A Framerz Bay where guests can use a tethered camera phone to take photos with an RTV celebrity, presidential candidate or political icon
• A Convention Karaoke contest where political pundits and politicians are paired with Rock stars to sing (potentially bad) karaoke to urge young people to get out and vote.

- WWE will probably have to edit R-Truth’s debut on SmackDown this week because of “TNA” and “We Want Angle” chants during the match which really didn’t get much other reaction from the crowd. Truth ended up selling a lot of Kenny Dykstra’s moves and Vince McMahon got pissed off because he wanted Killings to look like a top star and sell nothing for Dykstra. Mis-communication backstage had the agents tell Killings to work a standard babyface match, sell big and then do a comeback for the win.

-A LAWSUIT by three disgruntled ex-WWE wrestlers will be requested to be dismissed by Federal Court, according to the company’s top lawyer.

The threesome – Scott ‘Raven’ Levy, Chris ‘Kanyon’ Klucsarits and Mike Sanders – say the WWE classified them as independent contractors, but treated them as full employees.

They are suing the federation for “unspecified compensatory damages” over benefits they would have received as employees, and hope to extend the claim to every grappler under contract to Vince McMahon’s group from 2002-2008. McDevitt makes WWE’s defence
