Though SummerSlam was just weeks ago, there is only one thing on the mind of WWE Superstars: Unforgiven. With a Championship Scramble set to feature five of Raw’s most powerful and intense competitors, and multiple matches set on Monday night, tensions are running high.

After General Manager Mike Adamle announced that John Cena’s recently sustained herniated disk in his neck would prevent him from competing in the World Heavyweight Championship Scramble, he claimed that he would have a suitable replacement for the Chain Gang Commander. That replacement turned out to be another former World Champion, Rey Mysterio. But Mysterio has been missing from Raw for months, due to a brutal attack by Kane, if the Big Red Monster is to be believed. Will Mysterio be in good enough physical condition to compete at Unforgiven? And what type of mental state will the Ultimate Underdog be in?

Meanwhile, the World Heavyweight Championship Scramble’s other four competitors competed against one another on Monday night, with World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk proving his mettle against JBL while Batista’s match with Kane ended in a disqualification when the Big Red Monster introduced a steel folding chair into the match. With Punk and JBL nursing a long-time rivalry, and Batista keeping Kane in his sights because of the Big Red Monster’s treatment of Mysterio, emotions are running high amongst the Scramble competitors. With Unforgiven scant weeks away, will these competitors’ intensity even allow them to make it that long without exploding?

Also on Raw, Chris Jericho accepted a challenge from Shawn Michaels to an Unsanctioned Match at Unforgiven. Both men went on to make clear their intent to seriously injure their opponent, as their rivalry has grown intensely personal over the last few months. With the injured HBK looking to extract an “eye for an eye,” will the coming weeks see the two men clash before their Unforgiven match?

On Monday night, Raw’s resident golden couple, Intercontinental Champion Santino Marella and Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix, had a brief lovers’ spat, due to Santino distracting Beth during a match against Kelly Kelly and The Glamazon’s subsequent loss. While “Glamarella” appears to have reconciled, could this signal a rocky period for Santino and Beth?

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Despite his recent herniated disk injury, John Cena made dreams come true for Make-A-Wish’s Cody McClellan, of Louisville, Ky., James Gravelee, of Kalispell, Mont., and Circle of Champs honoree Matthew Sarna, of Mountain Top, Pa., in a plush VIP suite at Wilkes-Barre’s Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza.

“John Cena is my role model,” said Cody, 10. “I hope to be like him. He’s never negative. He does and says some really funny stuff on television, too.”

James, 16, has been a Chain Gang Soldier ever since Cena arrived to WWE. Every time he watches Raw, he jumps out of his seat with excitement. For Matthew, 5, his dream came true via some help from the Pennsylvania State Police Department. After hearing of Matt’s story and knowing of the kindergartener’s love for WWE and John Cena, the department requested the special meet and greet.

When Cena arrived to the VIP suite, he autographed photos, T-shirts, including James’ stuffed teddy bear, Cody’s Cena T-shirt, caps, his “You Can’t See Me” CD, posed for pictures with Matthew, Cody, James and their families, and presented his Chain Gang Soldiers with wristbands, headbands and his Hustle, Loyalty, Respect T-shirt.

The former three-time champion was impressed with the many homemade posters made by the True Champs, especially James’ “WWE & Make-A-Wish Tag Team Champs” sign. Cena’s injury was the outcome of a high impact Batista Bomb he received at SummerSlam. However, Cena, one of Circle of Champions honorees biggest fans, would not allow his anything stop him form meeting the True Champs.

“The reason why I keep doing all I can for organizations like Make-A-Wish is because of the joy I’m able to provide the kids; it’s about them. It’s the utmost form of flattery. At the same time, if that’s the part I can do for charity, I’ll keep doing it,” explained Cena. “It’s not about padding any statistics or anything like that. It’s about gearing these kids up for a great night of having fun and preparing them for the WWE experience. They were awesome.”

Although Cena was their favorite, the Circle of Champions honorees also received a visit from Cryme Tyme, who were “flossin” Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase’s World Tag Team Championship titles. The self-styled “candle guys” posed with the True Champs and let them hold the gold. However, it was Cena who left the three fans still in awe of their special meeting.

“He’s so big. I’ve been waiting for this moment as long as I can remember. It still hasn’t sunk in yet. I almost cried when I saw him. I couldn’t believe it was him hugging me,” James recalled. “And I hope that Cena gets the World Heavyweight Championship soon.”

“Well, if he doesn’t get the title back, I can just give him mine,” Cody added with a huge smile, as he held up his replica WWE Championship.

The Sarnas were elated to have been able to experience this special moment, and be there with Matthew as he watched Raw live for the first time.

“It just means so much to our family. We are so thankful for WWE and Make-A-Wish to touch our families like this. This is one of the first times in the last year that we’ve had a family moment that we can enjoy together. It’s just so amazing that they did this for us … It’s beyond words.”

David, Matthew’s father continued, “Matthew is my hero. He never complains. Every day he asks if it’s Monday or Friday night. He’s totally thrilled to be here.”

Letstalkswrestling.com Matt Loede reports he had attended an Cleveland Indians baseball game, where Mick Foley threw out the first pitch and signed autographs for fans.

Matt: “Mick, so what is true on these rumors of your leaving?”

Foley: “I didn’t even know there were rumors.”

Matt: “Various sites are reporting you are leaving WWE and signing with TNA…is that true?”

Foley: “Who reported that?”

Matt: “It’s all over wrestling sites on the net”

Foley: “Well, I can say that is NOT true, though I may try out a PPV with them.”

-It appears WWE is considering moving their 24/7 programming from an on-demand pay-per-view subscription service to its own television channel. Currently the company is doing a marketing study which is probably being done to try and present the cable companies with evidence that people will switch to or from satellite, based on the ability to see the WWE channel as a free service.

It’s known that Vince McMahon has talked about WWE needing its own TV channel for years now. One advantage of having their own channel would be if the USA Network or MyNetworkTV changed their minds on carrying WWE programming, wasn’t interested in anymore or had some sort of power shift, then WWE would have its own channel to air their programming on.

August 29. Three years ago on this date, I sat with my family and watched the water pour in my New Orleans home. When my family could finally reach my grandfathers home in Mississippi, all we found was the cement slab the house once stood on. My parents home had over eight feet of water causing all the windows and doors to burst from the pressure of the water. The thing is, what I experienced was just one of thousands of experiences. Losing all of your material possessions forces one into the reality that material things do not define us. We are defined by our morals, family, and friends. I am thankful that this experience allowed me to begin experiencing life in a new way.

I want to take the opportunity to thank those that gave their time to help citizens in need. As a nation and a world, I believe we have to unite and help those in need.

New Orleans is such an amazing city. It is full of life, culture, and excitement. Not to mention, the world’s best food! In light of the recent tropic activity, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas are bracing for what could be another strong storm. My thoughts and prayers go out to those in its path.

My heart will always belong to New Orleans.

Funk’s Corner - Killer Kowalski - His “Stomp to the Face” Didn’t Hurt at All

In 1952, wrestling magazines were as important to professional wrestling as television. As a 10 year old kid I living on Dory Funk Sr.’s Flying Mare Ranch in Umbarger, Texas we had no wrestling on television. My main source of information was the wrestling magazines published in New York.

I was shocked when I read the front page of Wrestling Review and saw a picture of Killer Kowalski and Yukon Eric. The headline read, Killer Kowalski kicks off Yukon Eric’s ear.

Kowalski was 6′ 6″ tall and looked like the most amazing athlete I had ever seen. I could imagine Kowalski’s boot coming down on Yukon Eric’s ear and knocking it right off his head. Killer Kowalski was the top heel in the country at the time.

Twelve years later, my father received a call from Jim Barnett, Wrestling Promoter in Sydney Australia asking if I would be interested in coming to Australia for three months. As I got off a Quantas Airlines 707 at Sydney International Airport people were talking about professional wrestling on television and “Bad Guy” Killer Kowalski.

They told me of an interview on a national TV show where the host asked Killer Kowalski if it hurt when he stomped his opponent in the face with his size 16 wrestling boot. Killer replied, “No it doesn’t hurt at all. I wear special thick soles and it doesn’t hurt my foot at all.”

The value of a professional wrestler to a promotion is his box office appeal. My first match was in Sydney Stadium, only a short walk from our hotel in Kings Cross. Sydney Stadium held 17,000 people and it was packed to the rafters for the main event, Killer Kowalski against Tex McKenzie. That same week Killer Kowalski and Tex McKenzie sold out Melbourne’s Festival Hall, 12,000 fans, Perth Australia’s National Stadium 25,000 people and Brisbane sold out to the tune of 8,000 people. Killer Kowalski was the biggest star in one of the best territories in the world, Australia.

We worked five days a week and traveled first class from one end of the country to the other. Killer Kowalski was the top heel for Jim Barnett’s Promotion. First class is the best way to describe Killer Kowalski as a person. It was such a thrill on the end of the tour to have the opportunity to wrestle the person I had been so impressed with as a child.

Killer Kowalski was a dear friend of Marti and I.

We will miss him.

Here she states on her Myspace that Stacey, Christopher and herself, Adrianne are making the world longest sushi roll ( see the photos below). She doesn’t comment on what it is for just yet.

WWE is saddened by the passing of one of wrestling’s most successful and revered stars, WWE Hall of Famer Walter “Killer” Kowalski. He was 81.

Kowalski began his career in sports-entertainment in 1947, and wrestled extensively throughout the world for 30 years.

A devout vegetarian, Kowalski stood taller than most of his opponents in the ring. And, once the bell rang, he had a ruthless and relentless style that mentally helped him reel in victory after victory. He generally finished off his opponents with his signature Iron Claw.

Infamously known as the man who ripped off part of Yukon Eric’s ear during a 1954 match held in Montreal, his prowess within the squared-circle ensured that his opponents be at the top of their games.

Kowalski competed in WWE rings during the 1960s and ’70s, and he and WWE Hall of Famer Gorilla Monsoon garnered the United States Tag Team Championship in 1963. But, of even more renown, Kowalski was regarded as the toughest challenger to then-WWE Champion Bruno Sammartino, selling out arena after arena up and down the Eastern Seaboard.

During the early 1970s, Kowalski trained a big, strapping individual, who was then known as Chuck O’ Connor. In 1976, the teacher-student combination of Kowalski and O’Connor attired themselves in black masks and tights, calling themselves The Executioners. On May 11 of that year, the duo won the World Tag Team Championship from Tony Parisi and Louis Cerdan. O’Connor went on to be known as Big John Studd.

After finishing a stellar career in 1977, the WWE Legend opened the Killer Kowalski Institute of Professional Wrestling in Malden, Mass., a place where individuals who wanted to pursue a mat career were taught everything and then some. To his credit, the most famous graduate of Kowalski’s school went on to become one of the premier performers in WWE history, current WWE Champion Triple H.

So, it was only fitting that in 1996 when Kowalski was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, Triple H himself had the honor and privilege of presenting his mentor.

Survived by his wife Theresa, Walter “Killer” Kowalski was a kind gentleman who loved life to the fullest. But inside the ring, he was all business, and certainly one tough individual you did not want to mess with.

-Speaking of Flair and Hulk Hogan, they will be together at an autograph signing on 12/13 in Secaucus, New Jersey. Hogan has reportedly lowered his asking price for the signing from $75,000 to $50,000.
