BACKLASH Results and TONS of photos!

And it’s Backlash - the first PPV after Wrestlemania, which usually makes it one of the most exciting - and this Backlash did NOT disappoint!

Match #1: The Hardy Boys Vs Cade and Murdoch

WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE

An excellent match with the Hardy’s doing their high flying stunts. Cade and Murdoch managed to get in a good double-teamed leg drop, but in the end it was a beautiful Swanton that sealed the deal.

WINNER: The Hardy Boys!

Match #2: Melina Vs Mickie James

TNA Matinee for the Womens’ Title

There were actually some good moves in this match - most of them coming from Mickie James, including a beautiful cartwheel and monkey flip. Melina landed in a split at one point, making the crowd go wild, but a reverse DDT was the final move.

WINNER: Melina

Match #3: Chris Benoit Vs MVP

US TITLE MATCH

Benoit dominated this match, including not one, not two, but FIVE German Suplexes! Some great technical moves, but then again, Benoit is the best at that!

WINNER: Chris Benoit

Match #4: Bobby Lashley Vs Shane McMahon, Vince McMahon & Umaga

ECW TITLE MATCH

Shane and Umaga do most of the damage on Lashley - Vince gets in a couple of good hits, then runs away to avoid the muscled champ. Umaga and Shane keep going on the powerhouse, and eventually wear him down. Twice Vince tries to get the pin on Lashley, but to no avail. Finally Umaga goes for a huge splash from the top, tags in Vince, and we have a new ECW Champion.

WINNER: Vince McMahon (???)
This makes McMahon both a WWF AND an ECW Champion. I guess it’s good to own your own company!

Match #5: The Undertaker Vs Batista

LAST MAN STANDING Match for the WORLD TITLE

Possibly the longest match of the night. The ‘Taker took it “old school” most of the way, getting in some awesome drops from the top. A beautiful led drop from the Undertaker takes care of the announcer’s table (it’s a PPV - SOMEONE had to go through it), and Batista amazes everyone by surviving a Tombstone! They head up the ramp near the entrance and fight really close to the edge. Batista runs and spears the Undertaker off of the set and everything falls down. No one’s moving. The ref calls for the EMT’s and does the count-out.

WINNER: DRAW (Undertaker retains the belt)

Match #6: John Cena Vs Edge Vs HBK Vs Randy Orton

WWE WORLD TITLE MATCH

The most hyped up match of the night. Not surprisingly, Orton DOES appear to wrestle (as we knew he would). The match is everything you would expect from these four superstars. It’s an all for one in the beginning, with Edge and Cena really going at it while HBK and Orton have their own little feud. Cena goes down after he hits the post with his shoulder and Edge and Orton decide to work together. Edge jumps off the apron onto Cena and the announcer’s table (those tables never survive a PPV), and manage to get a double boston crab on HBK. As the match gets near the end it seems like everyone’s going up top, with a massive Tower of Doom that takes everyone down. They resume the match, and Edge tries to spear Cena - but at the last second, Cena moves and Edge takes down Orton! Cena falls on Orton for the 1-2-3.

WINNER: And still WWE Champion - John Cena

The match ends and HBK tells Cena that he is luck - he then returns to a corner to think. Once again, HBK misses his shot for the title.

Randy Orton counting his blessing.

Saturday, April 28th, 2007
orton-hopesanddreams.jpg

Apparently WWE is keeping the rooster in Backlash.Orton will be wrestling in the Fatal Four Way match with Cena,Edge and Michaels.

Everyone has heard about the extensive damage that Orton caused to a hotel room in Europe, and it seems as a result, WWE is seeking two forms of punishments.

One - keeping Orton off further pay-per views, which will hit him in the wallet.

Two - WWE Corporate is considering to send him to either Smackdown or ECW. Orton has expressed that he would prefer to stay on Raw because of the spotlight he has created for himself. Moving him to either of the other shows will put him back down the ladder.

Orton, in my opinion, would really make a great stand in either Smackdown or ECW. Don’t get me wrong, this man can bring the heat to whereever he resides. Does this punishment fit the crime? With Orton’s past record, it’s doubtful.

We open from London, England, with Finlay and Kennedy attacking Batista on the ramp. Moments later the lights go out and the Undertaker appears in the ring. Both Finlay and Kennedy decide they don’t want a piece of the ‘Taker and head back to the dressing room. The lights go out and the Undertaker is gone. Batista runs back after Finlay and Kennedy and we head straight into the first match!

MATCH #1: Kane & Boogeyman VS William Regal & Lance Taylor

Boogeyman enters the ring, looks Kane in the eye and a worm crawls out of his mouth. Kane stands toe to toe with both Regal and Taylor while Boogeyman chews on his worm. JBL says that Boogeyman makes “George the Animal Steele” look normal. Kane finally tags Boogeyman and Taylor gets him into a headlock. Kane hits Taylor with a fist to the head. Boogeyman takes the opportunity to pick him up with both hands by the neck for a slam

WINNERS: Kane and Boogeyman

MATCH #2: Brian Kendrich w/ Paul London VS Deuce w/ Domino and Cherry

Even though Kendrich is half the size of Deuce, the man has the heart of a Lion. Deuce throws everything he’s got at the man but because of Kendrich’s talents, it’s just not enough to start with. Cherry jumps onto the ropes to distract Kendrich while Domino attacks London on the outside. Kendrich hits Domino from inside the ring, and when he turns around Duece hits him witha side kick to the face for the 1-2-3.

WINNER: Deuce

This was an awesome preformance from Brian Kendrich. Deuce could not beat him withouth the interference of his “little friends”. In my book, Kendrich and London are equals to that of the Hardy Boys. I only have one piece of advice for the powerhouse duo: get better wrestling attire!

MATCH #3: MVP VS 2 Mysterious Athletes

MVP says that he has chosen two athletes that are better then Benoit for a face off. The first athlete: Scottish Champion Hamlin McBeth. MVP charges McBeth. There is a lot of cockiness in his wrestling. He uses the playmaker to pin him quickly.

As MVP talks about his next competitor Benoit walks out and asks MVP if he wants to take on a REAL champion. MVP agrees.

Benoit enters the ring and uses nothing but agression against MVP. I have to hand it to him, MVP is probably the only wrestler to ever be able to counter almost every move Benoit has. Benoit gets MVP into three different submission holds and each time MVP reaches the ropes. MVP gets miffed and leaves the ring stating that he only wants to wrestle.

WINNER: Benoit as a result of count out.

MATCH #4: The TNA Matinee for the evening: Jillian VS Michelle

Jillian walks onto the stage and announces (as if we didn’t know) that Prince William has broken up with his, “trailer park trash girlfriend”, and that she is available to fill the vacancy. She starts to sing a song dedicated to Prince William when Michelle walks out. No contest, Michelle dominates the match, but Jillian gets in a lucky kick to end it.

WINNER: Jillian
Jillian leaves the ring and starts to sing again when Michelle grabs her and slams her into the steel steps. All I have to say is, “THANK YOU MICHELLE!”

MATCH #5: Mr. Kennedy & Finlay VS Batista & Undertaker

NO DISQUALIFICATION MATCH

The crowd roars when Batista arrive, but roars even louder when the ‘Taker hits the stage. Batista and the Undertaker stare into each other’s eyes before the match begins in a show of respect. Both men go for their opponents - Batista backdrops Finlay off the top rope while Mr. Kennedy enters the ring. Batista throws Kennedy towards the ropes where Finlay is standing. As Kennedy runs into Finlay, both men exit the ring by going over the top rope.

The ‘Taker really goes old school on his opponents tonight, pounding their heads with his giant forearm. Finlay hits Batista with the Shilaleigh to his injured right leg. The Undertaker, fed up with the abuse Batista is taking, runs in and clean house. He choke slams both Finaly and Kennedy. Batista re-enters the ring to spine bust Finlay.

WINNERS: The Undertaker and Finlay

Batista tells the Undertaker, after the match, that the title belongs to him, and that he’ll be taking it back at Backlash. As Batista leaves, the Undrtaker replies that he is no ordinary man, and that he is going to take Batista’s soul!

This match will be the best match of all matches at Backlash. The Animal VS The Deadman - neither man will back down!!!

Lance Cade upset over Internet Columnist

Friday, April 27th, 2007
cade-murdoch.jpg

In an article on WWE.com, Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch have some strong opinions of the Internet critics who have been bashing them. Cade said,

“Which of those Internet losers has had to leave his family for 14 straight days like we just did on this past European tour? They’ve never had to miss their son’s or daughter’s birthday like I’m going to have to do this Saturday. Unless they’ve stepped foot in our ring, they’ve got no business judging us.”

I can understand where these men are coming. Hell I’d die if I had to miss my son or daughters’ Birthday party. But as well as we all know that if your are in the wrestling business you must take the good, with all the bad. That is the “way of the wrestling family” goes.

RVD leaving the WWE…?

Friday, April 27th, 2007
rvd1.jpg

Rob Van Damme is on WWEs mind at this moment. His is in the mist of renewing his contract but what WWE has proposed to him, RVD has turned it down.RVD’s contract expires at the end of this summer.

Stephanie McMahon-Levesque,Executive Vice President of Creative is know teaming up with the rest of her staff to focus more on Elijah Burke and CM Punk. This is just in case that RVD and WWE do not come to an agreement and disrupt the story lines.

Is Vince Mcmahon going to lose an Original on ECW? Is everything to Vince all about money? I hope Mr. McMahon is thinking down the road here cause I know that TNA would love to get there hands on this Gem-RVD.

Way the corporation is going now, Vince might has a fight on his hands with just s few Ex-WWE wrestlers on the loose. Hulk Hogan , Paul Wight and maybe now RVD..??

, , ,

Wrestlers going to be actors..

Friday, April 27th, 2007

WWE recently opened a small office in Santa Monica, California which will be used as a talent agency. Vince is trying to get more wrestlers cast in films, TV shows, and commercials and generally wants wrestlers to have a bigger impact in Hollywood.

They are also hoping to get more celebrity involvement with the company after their success with Donald Trump and Kevin Federline. Kevin Dunn is one of the major people pushing for this.

As I stated recently, Vince Sr. fired Hulk Hogan for going into movies, but apparently this is not stopping. Will the diversifying of the WWE wrestlers have a huge impact on wrestling as we know it now? If the biggest stars are having to spend months taping a movie or promoting one, what will happen to Raw and Smackdown? If this happens, other wrestling industries may have the opportunity to rise up and knock Vince out of the ring like WCW once did. Is he really making the best move for wrestling and the industry, or is the sight of money making him blind?

Take your child to work day

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

Today the entire staff of 451Press is celebrating national “Take your child to work day” by having our children write our posts for us. So here to give you his take on Wrestling and the WWE is my six-year old son, Toad.

toadresize.jpg

Hi! I’m Toad. I like wrestling with Daddy. I like to do choke-holds on him. I like to jump off things like the couch like the wrestlers do on TV. Wrestling on TV is cool. I think I’d like to be a wrestler when I grow up. I’d like to jump off the high ropes and beat people up.

There you have it from a future member of the WWE FanNation.

My thoughts on Backlash…

Thursday, April 26th, 2007
wwfback.jpg

Backlash = a popular extreme negative reaction against something that has gained popularity, prominence, or influence.

The aftershock of Wrestlemania.

The events for Backlash are as follows:

John Cena vs Randy Orton vs Edge vs Shawn Michaels
The Fatal Four Way-WWE heavyweight Championship

John Cena is a great champ but all good things must come to an end.
Randy Orton’s situation right now? Only Vince McMahon himself probably knows.
Edge has the drive and the talent, but no “awesomeness” to convey to the crowd.

HBK has not won the WWE in over 9 years. NINE YEARS. This man is all about wrestling so what the hell is up? Michaels was supposed to defend his title at a WrestleMania 13 rematch with Bret Hart but he gave up the title on a special episode of RAW dubbed Thursday RAW on Thursday, February 1997. Hands down Shawn Michaels will win the WWE Heavyweight title.
That being said, Michaels reign as owner of the WWE Championship should start here.

Chris Benoit vs MVP-For the United States Championship

I believe Benoit should retain the title for a lengthy part of time, but in WWE’s mind, MVP will have the win over Benoit - as much I can’t stand it. It looks like WWE’s is going to push MVP up to the top ranks in the federation.

Melina vs Mickie James- for the Womans WWE Championship

The other night in Paris, due to a referee mistake, Mickey James defeated Melina and Victoria in a Triple threat match to win the Womans title. Later that night WWE fixed the mistake by having Mickey lose the title back to Melina. Due to this little “slip up”, I believe Mickey James will once again regain her title.

The Hardys vs Lance Cade and Trevor Murdock-for the world Tag Team Championship

Come on now give this up. Matt and Jeff have got way more talent that Cade and Murdock. Lance and Trevor don’t even compare to those two. Maybe we should match “the hilbillies” up with the “Fonz’s gang” on Smackdown. Watch out Deuce and Domino - the hillbillies are coming! The Hardys will win at Backlash, hand down!

Undertaker vs Batista-for the World Heavyweight Championship

This is going to be a hell of a match. Maybe they should change it into a “Hell In A Cell” match to spice things up. Batista will fight tooth and nail to recover his title, but I suspect that there will be outside interference to help the Undertaker keep his title for awhile.

Bobby Lashley vs the World: Vince and Shane McMahon and Umaga- for the ECW heavyweight title.

Will Shane get back into the ring? Hell yeah. I predict that this match is going to go down in history. What would be more controversial then if Shane McMahon pinned Bobby Lashley and won the ECW title? Shane, in my book, is an awesome wrestler who is willing to take a hit when needed to. I am actually hoping that Shane McMahon beats Bobby Lashley to become the new ECW champ!

More On Orton and WWE

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Well, it seems that WWE has a lot to talk about today.

First of all, they are furious the news was leaked on the internet about Orton’s hotel destruction before they, themselves could comment on it. Rumor now has it that the damage was anywhere from 10,000 to 50,000. That’s a lot of hotel sheets, glasses and towels!

Also, at the Raw taping the Titantron advertised the match of ‘Randy Orton vs Edge’ to the live crowd. This obviously didn’t happen since Orton is back in the states for disciplinary reasons.

News of that match being hyped was reported all over the net. WWE then posted the following to try and clear up their screw up:

Although other matches were scheduled for the night, including a contest pitting Edge against Randy Orton, the length of the main event left no room for other battles.

Uh huh - well, now it makes sense why the Shawn Michaels VS John Cena match went on so long! WWE was trying to cover their tracks!

And now, of course, they’re hyping up the match for Backlash, and yet they’re still saying that they are taking action against Orton.

What, is Vince giving him a personal spanking or something?

WWE and Orton Not Seeing Eye to Eye

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007
randyorton2.jpg

Word has spread like wild fire across the internet about Randy Orton ruffling the feathers of the WWE Corporation. I said before, here, that Orton was sent home from the European tour. It seems that WWE is taking an even stronger stand now. It is stated on the WWE website:

“WWE has taken action against Randy Orton for unprofessional conduct”.

Short and to the point. Once again they take action against him for professional conduct…what’s next…more anger management classes? Gotta love it!

In the words of Ron Simmons…“DAMMNNN!” It seems to me that Orton has quite a temper. Who knows what WWE is going to do with him now? I Wonder what Vince is going to do about Backlash? Will the Fatal Four-Way match still occur?

I now doubt that Mr. Orton will be attending the event.

Raw Results 4-23-07

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

raw.jpg

Raw coming at us from London, England.

Shane McMahon comes out dressed as Shane O’Mac and says that Bobby Lashley will not be joining the show tonight. Mini-McMahon explains that he wants to honor St. Georges day, which is when they celebrate slaying a dragon. Shane states that *he* is the dragon. He asks the crowd who will take him on in a No Holds Barred match and singles out one man. It turnst out to be Jose Morineau, the Chelsey Football coach. The crowd goes wild, but Morineau refuses the challenge.

Shane then says that he went out and found “Great Britians greatest wrestler”, a man named Robbie Brookside. He tells the crowd that Brookside has taken on six men at once. When he comes out we see that Brookside is a small little thing of a man that my six year old could beat.

MATCH #1: Shane O’Mac VS Robbie Brookside

Shane does a headlock into a hip toss and totally humiliates Brookside. He uses the Shane Shuffle and knocks Brookside into the ring corner. He retrieves the hidden trash can and sets it on Brookside. He does a coast to coast and lands on the can.

Shane then tells Brookside, who is out cold by this point, that it’s a 2 on 1 handicapped match. Umaga comes out and slams Brookside into the corner. Shane then says that he lied - it’s a 3 on 1 match! Vince comes out and rolls up Brookside in the 1-2-3.

WINNER: The McMahons and Umaga

We get teaser scenes of John Cena and Shawn Michaels from Wrestlemania 23 to get the crowd ready for the main event of the night.

MATCH #2: Matt Hardy w/ Jeff Hardy VS Trevor Murdoch w/ Lance Cade

Murdock pushes Matt into the corner. Matt jumps onto the trundle rope and Murdoch sweeps his legs out from under him, making Matt land on his back on the ring. He gets up and puts Murdoch into a Bulldog Headlock for a near fall. Cade jumps onto the rope to distract mat and Murdoch gets mat into a sunset flip slam.

WINNER: Trevor Murdock

A screen pops up with Triple H on it that says “We are experiencing technical difficulties”, but before I had time to get thoroughly pissed off, Raw came back on.

MATCH #3: Melina VS Maria

Our T&A Matinee for the evening, ladies and gentlemen, involved a hair-pulling cat fight. Melina takes Maria on the ropes, but Maria gets out of the hold and runs. Melina grabs her and and hair-slams Maria onto the mat.

WINNER: Melina

Thanks god I didn’t have to take a leak, I would’ve missed the whole damn match!

MATCH #4: The Great Khali VS Carlito

Khali is already in the ring when Carlito enters the ring. Carlito hits Khali, but to no effect. Khali easiliy knocks Carlito out of the ring. Khali picks up Carlito, but Carlito rakes his eyes to escape. Carlito jumps on the top rope for a missile drop kick but Khali picks him up for a tree slam.

WINNER: The Great Khali

Ric Flair enters the ring and it sounds like Carlito talks to him in Samoan. It sounds like Samoan shit-talk! Flair leaves in disappointment. For the FOURTH week Carlito sucks - something up here

American Idol alum Chris Daughtry gets some play time, as his song, “There and back again” is the official theme song at Backlash.

Mick Foley comes out and reminds the crowd that they are in London, England (as if they could forget) and talks about the match at Backlash that is Edge, Cena, HBK and Orton that the Make a Wish acting GM, Michael Pena, created.

MATCH #5: Shawn Michaels VS John Cena

The Wrestlemania re-match begins around 10:10 p.m.

This match goes on for a very, very long time. It seems like it’s not about how hard they can hit, but how many times they can get back up after they’ve been knocked down. Both Cena and HBK take tremendous punishment, including Cena being knocked into the announcers table and almost into JR’s lap. HBK tries to pile-drive Cena on the steel steps, but Cena counters with a back drop off the steps and onto the cement floor. It seems like it’s a no-holds barred match!JR announces that this match is about, “Who is the better man”?

Cena gets in quote a few STFU’s, but HBK gets in a massive sweet chin music on Cena. He crawled over to Cena for the pin, but Cena grabbed the bottom rope before the ref counted to 3! The two seemed to have another burst of energy and they go at it again in the middle of the ring. Cena gets HBK up for another FU, but HBK slips out of it and give him another bout of sweet chin music.

And that does it! HBK crawls over to Cena and throws his arm over him, and the ref counts 1-2-3 to a roaring crowd.

WINNER: Shawn Michaels “The Show Stopper”

Shawn Michaels grabs the belt from it’s resting place and sits next to the unconscious Cena. It looked like he said “I don’t need it”, but I’m not entirely sure. He give a quick DX sign and leaves the ring with the crowd still at it’s feet.

As a prelude to Backlash, this Raw wasn’t half bad. I do think that the Cena/HBK match, while a great match, went on too long for being a non-title match. Did HBK’s DX sign at the end signal that Triple H will be returning to the WWE at Backlash? And who will emerge with the belt after Backlash?!

Weekend Catch-Up and Previews

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Alright, a lot has happened this weekend, so let’s get to it!

Super Crazy was injured on the European tour this weekend. The reports are now in that he has a torn MCL. The injury usually occurs when the outside portion of the knee joint is struck and the muscles inside the knee are stretched too far, causing a tear. Watching some of the things Super Crazy does, I’m not surprised.

Danny and Doug Basham’s 90 day no-compete clasue finally expired, and they debuted with TNA over the weekend at the Louisville, Ky. house show on Friday night. Unfortunately they didn’t do too well, as Rhino beat Doug Basham in a street fight.

Tonight’s main match on RAW will be John Cena VS Shawn Michaels in a Wrestlemania re-match. Let’s see what these two have up their sleeves. My GUESS is that something will happen involving the other two contenders for the belt…

WWE only has two more tv shows to sucker convince people to buy the PPV. Right about now, everyone is getting their bill and cringing at having to pay the Wrestlemania fee, which is one of the reasons Backlash is always an excellent PPV - Vince wants to keep the money coming!

WWE Pursues Retirement Legend

Monday, April 23rd, 2007
arn-4horsemen.jpg

It has been almost two weeks since the release of the new Four Horsemen dvd.

WWE has approached retired WCW superstar and Legend Arn Anderson with hopes that Arn will come out of retirement and wrestle a few matches with fellow Horsemen Ric Flair in an effort to further promote the Four Horsemen dvd. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are involved in pushing this forward, in an effort to help “dear old dad”.

It is highly doubtful that Anderson will be able to come back and wrestle any matches. His pre-existing injuries make him too big of a risk. The only option he has would be to get medical clearance to wrestle. There has been some talk backstage of Arn returning as a manager just to promote the much hyped-up DVD.

It would be amazing if the WWE could get the Four Horsemen back together to wrestle - it’s something that would shake up the wrestling world for a very long time.
